As someone who advocates for POC media here on Wattpad and off, I am doing my part in pushing the importance of allyship for the black community. I'm going to speak-up but also shut up, and make sure the oppressed voices are heard!

!!!! BLACK LIVES FUCKING MATTER !!!!

What's happening in the world (in my own backyard nonetheless) is DISGUSTING. I'm hurt, angry, tired, and speechless. In the last couple of days, I've marched peacefully alongside forward-thinking people who are tired of the blatant racism against the black community. With the little money I have, I've donated to BLM organizations. I've emailed politicians to demand change. I've reached out to my black friends to assure them that I've got their back, and to continue educating me.

Last month was Asian-American Heritage month and I spent the last 31 days celebrating my Filipino culture. But I can't celebrate the heritage I'm so proud of without acknowledging the privilege. I've definitely faced racism/prejudice before, but NOTHING can compare to what my black brothers and sisters have gone through... what they're currently going through. I'm not white; I've got beautiful brown skin and thankfully I can walk, jog, and wear a hoodie out on the streets without the fear of getting approached by police officers due to the color of my skin. Or without fucking-stupid-ass Karen pulling out her white privilege to keep me from being in a public space.

For the black community however, it's all they experience. It's SO fucking gross that the melanin in their skin dictates the way they move and the way others move around them. African Americans make this world beautiful and they've contributed to the world in so many pivotal ways. In music, fashion, food, entertainment, education, politics and MUCH MORE, black lives play a CRUCIAL part in a culture we immerse ourselves in.

The rock music I listen to on the daily? Black people pioneered that. Rock music was created by iconic BLACK musicians such as Little Richard, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Chuck Berry and more.

The traffic lights I follow when I drive around my city? Yup, a black person invented that. His name is Garrett Morgan from Cleveland, Ohio.

The Gay Pride parades I love to attend? It's a memorial for the BLACK DRAG QUEEN and other PEOPLE OF COLOR who stood their ground on the frontlines during the Stonewall Riots. Her name is Marsha P. Johnson. She was an American drag queen, an activist, and spearheaded the liberation of gay people and their rights.

It makes me sick to my stomach that we have lost YET ANOTHER black person due to police brutality. I'm pissed that the orange tater tot in office is doing nothing but instilling propaganda into the minds of entitled, bigoted, RACISTS sitting at home wearing their MAGA caps like unseasoned slabs of meat. I'm frustrated that the people shouting "ALL lives matter" are the same people who agree with families being torn apart at the border, and don't bat an eyelash when innocent black lives are taken.

I don't believe all police officers are corrupted, but I do believe the system is skewed. I hope the officers who have good in their hearts stand alongside those who want justice, and stand up to their peers who taint the gold badge. This isn't black vs. white. This is EVERYONE vs. RACISTS. Don't say silent -- use whatever platform you have and make an impact so loud, the world has to listen.

SAY THEIR NAMES. SHOUT it into the sky with your entire heart and hope that this shit stops.

» George Floyd
» Breonna Taylor
» Ahmaud Arbery
» Sean Reed
» Tony McDade

There are plenty of resources out there for you to educate yourself on what's happening. Contact city officials, local politicians, and DEMAND change. We gotta do this together, hand in hand for the black community. We need to be there for them. Don't stay silent.
