The news hadn't really sunk in. Savannah had watched frozen as Booth and Brennan had confronted her brother, her blood and bone about Gormogon and being his appetence. Hodgins who was Zack's best friend was staring dumbstruck at nothing, Angela had tears welling in her eyes as she tried to understand. When Booth and Brennan left the hospital room, everyone, the whole team: Hodgins, Angela, Cam, Brennan and Savannah stood at the glass doors watching him. Brennan placed her hand and forehead on the glass as Sweets and Booth watched in the background.

Later, as the squints all mingled on the balcony above the forensics platform, Hodgins brought forward a box filled with Zack's belongings. Savannah had her arms leaning on the table and was resting her head on them. Cam seemed mad as she leaned on the back of a chair, she gave her feelings on the matter that Zack had killed someone and that he deserved to be locked up, Brennan responded that they loved Zack. Sweets brought up that Cam's anger was her way of dealing with the anger and the pain. Cam put her wrist up to her nose, her voice cracking as she spoke, "I knew the day, I met Zack, he'd cause me pain." She waved her hand and eventually everyone's attention was brought to the box by Booth, he explained it was all of Zack's favourite things.

Hodgins lifted out a small trophy, which had the words Zack Addy King of the Lab engraved on the plaque. "I got that for him." Cam smiled softly her voice full of wistfulness as she reached for it. "yeah, thanks for that, he waved that in my face every day." Hodgins laughed as he handed it over before pulling out a book. "Pocket Karma Sutra, I got him this, so he'd stop asking the sex questions." There were a few beats of laughter before the sound of a harmonica sang out. Booth stopped playing it as everyone looked at him. He looked bashful, "I got Zack this before he went to Iraq." Angela pulled out a fancy sheet of paper, "hey I drew this for him." It was a caricature of Savannah's brother holding a science experiment, wearing a small crown with a microscope in the background. The words, Zack "King of the Lab" scrawled across the bottom. Hodgins pulled out a photo frame that had a candid photo of Savannah and Zack at their graduation, he placed it in front of her. Sweets spoke as Booth pulled out a letter, "It's interesting that all his favourite things are objects that you people gave to him." Brennan seemed upset that she had never gotten him anything. Booth went after her. They came back after a few minutes and noticed that Savannah hadn't moved from her spot. Her throat felt as though it had closed up due to the lump that was in it.

The squint squad looked over at young woman who now looked younger than ever. While their own hearts were broken at the betrayal of a friend, they haven't even considered the achingly scattered pieces of his broken sister. Booth sighed lightly, he moved forwards and shrugged off his jacket. He placed it around Savannah's shoulder before tugging her gently to her feet. He grabbed her bag and carefully placed the photograph inside. Booth gave Cam a look which she understood thanks to their past. She nodded, got the rest of the squints to stay behind while Booth took Savannah to her own apartment. Booth stayed with Savannah; she didn't speak for the rest of the night and Booth had no idea how to apologise to her. In the morning when Booth had dropped Savannah at the airport, her flight home to see her family booked and paid for by Hodgins. He gave her nothing but a hug and a promise to listen if she ever wanted to talk.

A week or so later, when Savannah had gotten back from staying with her family. She walked into the lab, she was faced with overwhelming feelings that she couldn't quite place. As soon as she had stepped through the doors, Angela had shoved whatever files she had been carrying into a unsuspecting co-worker's arms and shoving them in the direction of her office. Angela swept the silent woman into a hug before holding her at arms-length. "You okay, sweetie?" Savannah gave a half -hearted shrug. Slowly the rest of the squints welcomed the young woman back, they seemed to decide that she needed to be distracted by their current case. The young pathologist in training stepped up to the platform, Hodgins elbowed her lightly and was about to make a joke when he realised what he was about to say. Savannah raised looked confused, "it's a Sherlock joke, probably inappropriate given...well." Savannah shrugged awkwardly and nodded, understanding what he was saying but not wanting him to continue.

Booth arrived and walked up the platform with Brennan at his side. Both commented that it was good to see Savannah back. Savannah looked out at the evidence surrounding her, the victim's medical records, the tissue samples, bone marrow samples; anything and anything medical related she had on the table surrounding her. Booth walked over to the table; Savannah sat at. She had taken a small rarely used office for her work, given that she usually shared her brother's office with him. Savannah looked up shyly at the FBI agent. He sat across from her. "What can you tell me?" Savannah began to quietly explain the evidence she had found and what it pointed to.

Booth spent most of the case with Savannah, whether it was the guilt of arresting her brother wearing him down or if it was the protective feelings he had for the younger woman, he didn't know. Booth walked into the small office that Savannah had claimed and offered her the lunch he had bought her. She gave him a shy smile. Savannah looked at her notes to avoid looking Booth right in the eye. When she did, she noticed something, a connection between the victim and one of the suspects. Her hand froze halfway to her mouth, a piece of her meal fell from her fork but into the container and Booth looked up at her. "The victim had hyperparathyroidism, so the placement of wrist restraints would account for the stress fractures on the distal anterior surface of both the radii and ulni." Booth looked up at her confused, "I need subtitles walking in here." Savannah looked at him, "Her bones broke because she was struggling to free herself." Booth nodded before it clicked in his head, before abandoning his own meal and raced out of the room.
