Ulysses S Grant: as Willie and Tad grew older Willie was four tad was two the boys would watch for Abe when he came home from work at his law office and ran to meet him the boys climbed all over him as he sat telling them wonderful stories about fighting Indians Lincoln took the boys along to the market they meet their friends Henry Chritian Remanm Jr and Edward Rathbun Jr Lincoln came home on January 3 1855 with something or somethings bulging in the front of his coat he saw two small heads peeking out the boys named them Fido and Jip and soon their cats Dixie and tabby loved the two dogs
Abe: Tad show Mr Davies the knife I brought you yesterday its the first knife Tad ever had and it's a big thing for him son what's wrong did you already lose it
Tad: no but I ain't got any
Abe: what has become of it
Tad: Bobby told me if he was me he'd wap (swap) my knife for candy
Abe: Bob how much did you pay for that candy
Robert: three cents
Abe: why Tad's knife costs three bits do you think you made a fair trade with Tad
Robert: no sir
Abe: I guess Bob that's right on your part and now Tad your knife is back give the candy to Bob he gave you the candy
Tad : I can't cause I ate up all the candy Bobby gave me and I ain't got no money to buy it
Abe: Bob must have his candy to make things square between you two
Tad: come on Bobby ill get your candy back for you
Willie: pa I want twenty five cents
Abe: my son what do you want of twenty five cents for
Willie: I want to buy some candy
Abe: my son I shall not give you twenty five cents I will give you five cents he'll be back
