CHAPTER NINETY SIX

-: fifth year :-

── IN WHICH THE FIRST LETTERS
ARE EXCHANGED

. . .

d. August 31st 1995

DEAR HARRY,

It's horribly formal, isn't it? But I don't think I've ever had to write a letter like this to anyone like you before. Not that I've really had anyone before, just a couple friends here and there and maybe a boyfriend who was just so out of convienience. We haven't ever spoken about that, have we? It's weird for me to mention it, right... but it's relevant, because I've never had anyone worth writing to before. You're the first - an honour, right?

I'm writing this a day before giving it to you, the morning before you go back to Hogwarts and unlike what I predicted, I am completely at peace with the idea. I thought maybe after everything that happened at the beginning of the month I would be a little more upset about it... but I'm not. Those days were hell though, and I suppose it was the whole not knowing thing that made it even worse. Now... I guess I'm fine.

And you better be fine too, because I can't imagine that you need anyything else to worry about or be upset over. That's another point too - don't you dare try and worry about me or think about what I might be doing in Grimmauld Place. It might be dark and somewhat mouldy (although Mrs Weasley's taken great care to get rid of that), but I'm happy here, and Snuffles needs someone to keep him company all year round.

I already got into a few of the schools I told you about. Whilst you guys were busy Flora took me to see them and I got a good look around, and I decided on one yesterday. After the station tomorrow Mrs Weasley is taking me to the uniform shop whilst Flora and Angela are out on order business, and I start on the fourth, so I'll be too busy to think about anything else.

I get a week to try out a few different classes before I get assigned my proper schedule, seeing as I moved before I did my exams. They're in the process of getting my old stuff transferred over from the school I used to go to, including majority of my art coursework. But I think I'll change one of them to textiles and combine it. I need something to keep me busy anyway, and I think making clothes is my best bet at actually enjoying it.

Textiles, History and French, I think.

It's funny, really. I could be telling you this face to face seeing as I'm quite literally sat next to you in bed writing this. You can sleep like the dead, by the way, I dropped the book I was leaning on to write this and you didn't even flinch. I did check you were alive once, just out of general concern, but you're fine. Everything's fine.

I'm going to give you this letter right before we leave. Flora's taken some pictures of us, you know, and she's giving them to me later today to put in this envelope. I'll make sure you get the best ones and I'll keep a few for myself too. I got you something too, way back at the start of the month. It's a badge, only something small, but I got it when I went to Diagon Alley on the day of your trial.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy your train ride. I promise you I'll be waving until the very last minute and waiting for you right there on the platform when it's time for you to come back.

I'll miss you, a lot.

Jane.

p.s. I love you, enjoy Hogwarts
