Chapter Eight: Won't see you later, Jessica
Jessica came into my Prius crying. She was my ridesharing customer.
"Hi Jessica," I said to her but she was too busy wiping the tears from her eyes with a tissue.
"What is it about musicians? They take your heart and then crumple it all up."
"What happened with Nick?"
"How do you know it's Nick?"
"Its me, Natalie."
"Oh right. You look so different without all the makeup and stuff. Yeah he dumped me."
"Well you guys weren't together for very long."
"Almost a month and a week." She sniffled.
That's not long, I said in my head. I wanted to celebrate in my head but I felt kind of bad for her.
"He said he just didn't want anything serious. That all his time is taken up with his music right now and that we can still be friends."
"Sorry that happened to you. But you're such a pretty girl, stunning really. You'll find Mr. Right soon enough."
"But I thought Nick was Mr. Right."
"He's just one dumb guy. There are more out there and that are better suited for you. You will find him."
"Thanks."
Later on, I texted Benji.
Me: So he broke up with Jessica.
Benji: Then you're halfway there.
Me: When do we break it off?
Benji: You want to make him really jealous first. There's a party on Friday night. Come with me.
Me: Nick will be there?
Benji: Of course.
Me: Okay what time?
Benji: I'll pick you up around 10.
