Chapter 33 | Karaoke

I groaned and snuggled closer into the warmth, and I felt something around me. As I willed myself to sleep, my brain, being on hyperdrive, was flooded with countless memories from last night, and

I jerked awake and hissed at the light. The sun had just started rising, and I looked to my side to see a still-asleep Tyler. "Ty, hey Ty." I shook him awake, and he opened one eye to look at me before sitting up. "We slept here; we should go back before the others find out." "Yeah, okay."

He grabbed his guitar and my hand and led me through the foliage before heading to our campsite. Luckily, Bianca's abnormal snores could still be heard, and no one was up yet. We went our separate ways and went to sleep some more before we woke up for real.

By the time the group had awakened, Tyler and I were far too awake to sleep again. We went about our days, with the group going to swim and me staying on the shore as I read a book and watched them. Bianca talked to Daniel and began leaving Tyler alone, which both frightened and comforted me.

Last night, I made up my mind to end things with Daniel after the trip; it was only fair. Our short trip ended far too early, and we were soon packing our tents and clothes and saying goodbye to the campsite. Not trusting his ability to focus on directions, Dylan drove, and we made a pit stop about 40 minutes from the boys' place to eat. "Table for eight." We stood back as Tyler handled the tables, and we were ushered in by the hostess.

As we walked in, we were met with a darker atmosphere and a man fixing sound on stage with a countdown timer in the background. "What's happening?" Ethan asked the hostess, "It's a karaoke contest; the cash prize is 300 dollars. Did you guys want to enter?" Before I could shake my head, Daniel spoke."My girlfriend and her little friend would." I looked at him before looking across to Tyler, who glared at him. My heart sank faster than ever when the thought that Daniel had been there that night crossed my mind. "I don't sing." I waved off the hostess, but Daniel pressed further. "What nonsense! I've heard you sing; you and he make a good match." I let out an awkward laugh and stared at Tyler, silently pleading with him to say something. "If you want me to sing that badly, all you have to do is ask, quarterback. Your obsession with me truly knows no bounds." Before Daniel could hit him with a smart reply, Tyler stood and went to sign our name. Oh, for fu-

"Hello everyone, and welcome to our third-ever annual karaoke contest. We have a lot of new names for you tonight. The man and the performers droned in and out of the sound as I ate and thought about the performers. At last, the name I had been dreading to hear was mentioned: "And for the last performers of the evening, give it up for Tyler and Bella!" The crowd cheered as I nervously walked alongside a confident Tyler. I turned to him and said, "Ty, we don't even have a song rehearsed. How are we?" He stood in front of me, blocking the crowd and fixing the guitar strap around his shoulder. "Don't focus on them; focus on me. You'll know the song. Just like we did two nights ago." I nodded and stared at him as he positioned himself slightly behind me.

He started strumming, and I immediately knew the song. He stepped up to the microphone and sang as he stared at me.

Tyler:

The moment that we met, I didn't know yet. I was looking at a face I'll never forget, because I can't get you off my mind

I took a deep breath as I sang with Tyler, staring deep into his sky-blue eyes Tyler and 

Bella:

Tyler:

Someone's going to fool your heart and take you away. Because I finally realized this, I took the microphone and held it in between us as we sang

Bella and Tyler:

Give me the chance to love you. I'll tell you the only reason why: because you are on my mind

I want to know your feelings

What do you see when you close your eyes? Because you are on my mind

Tyler:

Girl, I can't live without you

Bella:

I can't think straight without you.

Tyler:

So tell me, what should I do?

Bella and Tyler:

If I can't get you off my mind,

Tyler:

Bella:

I'll tell you the only reason why

Tyler:

'Cause you are on my mind

Bella and Tyler

I have to know you feel it

Tyler:

Bella and Tyler:

Cheering erupted from the audience, causing Tyler and I to slowly pull apart. "Give it up for the lovely couple!Oh, we're not. I went to correct the man, but Tyler interrupted, "Thank you." He set down the guitar and took my hand as we went back to the table where our friends congratulated us. I stared at Daniel expectantly. "So what did you think?" The others stared at him, and I looked at him with a hopeful smile and said, "I think you're a liar and a cheater; that's what I think." He stormed out, and Bianca, myself, and Tyler followed suit.

"Excuse me, but you're the one who practically told us to perform, so what do you mean?" I called after him as he paced back and forth by the car. "I think exactly what I said; you're a liar, a cheater, and a" Before he could finish, his head snapped to the side, and Tyler shook his hand. "Watch your words, asshole." Daniel scoffed unbelievably. "Of course, you'd say that since you're the one she's cheating with." "How am I cheating, Daniel? I've never even kissed him!" "You can cheat in other ways; Isabella, don't act stupid." "She hasn't done anything asshole; she's been trying so hard to be a good girlfriend to you." Another scoff, but this time from Bianca. "Yeah, right, like sneaking off for karaoke sessions in the middle of the night? Or perhaps spicy time by a vending machine; this isn't Twilight Bella; grow up." "You don't get to talk right now, not when there's obviously something going on between you two. I couldn't sleep; I went on a walk, and Tyler was there. What did you want me to do, Wander, at night until I got lost?" I yelled to both Daniel and Bianca. "You know, no, I'm not dealing with this; I'm calling a friend to pick me up." He took out cash and threw it at Tyler; that should cover it."

With that, he walked off.
