It was past midnight. Nathaniel was hovering over me while I was laying on my back on the bed. He was holding most of his weight off me by holding himself up with one arm. With his broad, muscled body the bed looked smaller than it actually was.

After I had given Nathaniel the ‘green light’ to take things further he was reluctant to do so. He seemed not completely convinced that this was what I wanted. He thought my decision was a ‘spur of the moment’ thing.

“I don’t mind waiting until everything is settled down,” he told me truthfully. 

I lifted myself up a little to get closer to him. When I was close enough I gave him a peck on the lips.

“I love you for that, but things will never settle down,” I said, looking into his mesmerizing hazel eyes. “We’ll always have things on our plate, especially now that we’re going to combine the packs.”

As I let him think over what I said a thought occurred to me. What if he didn’t want to complete the mate bond and was using me as an excuse?

“What’s with the sudden frown?” he asked me.

“I’m more than ready to take the next step, but maybe you’re not?” I stated, making it more sound like a question.

The expression on his face told me that he was not so happy with my statement.

“You seriously think that?” he asked, sounding slightly offended.

“I don’t know. You tell me,” I almost whispered. I lay back on the bed and waited for him to answer. A part of me was afraid to hear his answer. I didn’t want to think about how I would react or what I would do if he didn’t want me. My wolf seemed more relaxed about the matter as if she already knew the answer.

He sighed and shook his head with a small smile.

“Hales, I’ve been wanting to complete the mate bond ever since I laid my eyes on you,” Nathaniel confessed. He pressed his lower body against mine, making me feel how much he really wanted me, to prove a point.

“I was just respecting your wish to take things slow,” he added.

“I’m sorry for keeping you waiting this long,” I said. 

“You don’t have to apologize. You had your reasons. Besides, you’re my mate,” he whispered as he lowered himself to brush his lips against mine. “I would’ve waited an eternity if that was what you wanted.”

“I love you,” I told him for the second time that night. I hoped that those words were enough to let him know how much he meant to me.

“I love you too, beautiful.”

He pressed his lips on mine, moving them hungrily against mine. I found myself moving my lips in sync with his. Instead of deepening the kiss he moved away to nestle his head in between my neck and shoulder. He took a deep breath, taking in my scent and started to place wet kisses down my neck.

I placed my arms over his shoulders and tangled my hands in his soft black hair, tugging hum closer. The pleasurable sparks humming between us was driving me insane. I wanted nothing more than to be one with Nathaniel and complete the mate bond.
