Chapter 21
Pale's POV

My eyes opened a bit.
I sat up.
I was underwater and I was alive.
My tail was here.
But I looked around, other people didn't look so good.
I looked like the only thing conscious. I couldn't save everyone, and I might not be able to save anyone.
"Ally!" I called out.
She was under me, getting crushed under my tail.
I dragged her out and put her over my shoulder.
I grabbed a newborn baby and quickly swam over to the door.
It was bolted shut.
I whacked it with my tail and then door popped open.
I rushed to the air.
I broke to the surface and checked the newborn babies heartbeat.
It was faintly there. I checked Allies heart beat, it was stronger than the babies, but not by much.
In the distance, I saw an unoccupied section of land.
I quickly swam to it, keeping the baby and Ally above water.
When I got on the island I put Ally and the baby on shore.
Then I dragged them and myself to the higher, drier part of the beach.
I was to far away from traffic for anyone to see me, so that was good.
I began to work on the baby first.
I performed CPR on her.
She opened her eyes a bit and was breathing heavily.
Ally woke on her own.
Good thing she was a junior sponge diver.
"What happened?" She asked as she sat up.
"The bus fell off the bridge. You were out cold and I dragged you to shore along with this baby," I said.
"Thanks Pale, I guess having a mermaid best friend has it's perks," Ally said.
"I guess so," I said.
"Your where the bridge ends and take the baby with you and keep it as your own, it won't survive with me, unless if I give it this thing and it turns into a mermaid."
"What should we name it?" Ally asked. "How about...Pacific?"
"I like it," I said.
"Oh and Pale, in a year, I want Pacific to be a mermaid," Ally asked.
"Sure," I said. "She'll be my adopted child."
Ally laughed. "You'll be 15 and you'll be a mom."
"Well, mermaids get married at 16."
"Well then," Ally said. "Are you still coming to the mall?"
"Don't think so," I said.
"It's okay," Ally said. "I think I'm just going to go home."
"Okay," I said. "Bye."
I jumped into the water and Ally waved.
I waved back before I ducked back into the waves.
