•Chapter Thirty-Six•
Correction....I'm Luke Skywalker
(EARTH)

I sat as close to Alrekr as I could without touching him.  He had showed me the black handprints on his skin from where the Frost Giant had touched him, and I decided that I did not want to add to them.  I couldn't provide any warmth, but we both felt safer sitting side by side.

Some how—whether because of wards, or my sheer exhaustion—no matter how hard I tried, I could not use any of my magic.  I couldn't teleport, create shields, or even duplicate myself.  And I tried many times.  I didn't know how long they planned on keeping us in here, but I wasn't going to let Alrekr die because they were either cruel, or stupid enough to leave him in a industrial freezer in just a t-shirt and jeans.

I couldn't smell anything either—the cold blocked out anything I could have scented and the metal of the freezer itself both prohibited any smells from drifting through, as well any sounds from outside.  I wondered if the Frost Giant's knew of my enhanced senses, and if that was why they chose to shove us into a freezer.  Or maybe they just wanted to see if I fell apart from the realization that I was one of them.

Jokes on them, I settled in pretty well.  I knew nothing of my birth parents other than I shared one of them with Loki.  And I already knew I wasn't human—and yes, realizing that one of my parents yielded from a race of pillaging ice Giants was devastating, but my anger of what had been done to Käro and Tove, and what was happening to Alrekr, nearly over rode it.

If these giants were taking us to Asgard...if I could only get my hands on Lord Alder.

I wondered if someone could die solely by frostbite...

The freezer door clicked.  Both Alrekr and my heads whipped towards the sound.  I was on my feet, standing over Alrekr before the door even started to creek open.

The Giant had to duck to step into the freezer.  It was the one that had grabbed me; I could tell by the nasty looking teeth marks on his calf.  The wound was scabbed over and his whole leg was bruised.  I resisted the urge to smile at the fact that he was injured.

"Touch him," I seethed, "and you'll leave this room worse than you came in."

The Frost Giant loosed a laugh, "you have spark, little girl."

"But it's insulting that you think you can do any real damage to me."

Mocking.  He was mocking me.  But I didn't get out another word before the second one slipped into the room.  Alrekr wasn't in a condition to fight.  I was out numbered.

"What did you do to Käro?"  It wasn't much, but it was an attempt to distract them.  It didn't work.

"He's no longer your concern, halfling."  The first growled before stalking forward.  I didn't have any where to move—and I wouldn't leave Alrekr.  The Giant grabbed my arm.

I shrieked as he dragged me away from Alrekr.  "LET ME GO!"

The Giant jerked me closer, grabbing me by the chin—not hard enough to really hurt but enough that it squeezed my cheeks together and didn't let me pull away.

"If you wish the boy to make it to Asgard with all of his limbs still attached, I suggest that you shut your mewling mouth and cooperate."
