Wakas: The Painful Thorns

"YOU are a disappointment! Napakasimpleng bagay ay hindi mo magawa!" my Mom's voice echoed in my head like she was just beside me, scolding me.

"Ito na nga lang ang magagawa mo sa pamilyang ito ay hindi mo pa mabigyan ng halaga!" my Dad exclaimed.

I smiled faintly, nanatili akong nakatitig sa mapunong paligid at mabatong daan. I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel, I have an appointment today at the hospital.

I will be appointed as the director of our main hospital here, hoping that I'll meet my parent's expectations this time.

My friend, Ad, called.

"Where are you?" he asked me.

"On the way..." I answered, bahagyang umalog ang sasakyan nang may matamaang malalaking bato kaya kumunot ang noo ko.

"Faster, Thorn, the board members are here," aniya. Hindi naman ako umimik at nagpatuloy sa pagmamaneho.

If only I didn't get drunk last night ay malamang hindi ako magigising nang late, I'm sure as hell I will be scolded later.

I stopped in my tracks when I saw a woman at the side of the road, my forehead creased. She was just standing there, blinking her eyes, innocently drying her tears at nang bahagya na akong lalagpas ay sinundan ko siya ng tingin.

Is she lost? Should I go back?

I cursed when my car suddenly stopped, kaagad kong inulit ang paghawak sa kambyo pero hindi na ito muling umandar.

"What the fuck?" I cursed hardly.

"What happened?" Ad asked me in the other line. Tinanggal ko ang earpiece sa tainga ko at mabilis na inabot ang telepono ko at lumabas ng sasakyan.

"Nasiraan ako, medyo ma-le-late ako..." I told him. Sumilip ako sa gulong ng sasakyan ko at hinawi ang buhok ko.

How unlucky I could be?

"Yari ka talaga, Thorn! Namumuro ka na kay Tita Stella!" humalakhak siya pero napabuntonghininga lang ako. "But anyway, may malapit naman atang repair shop d'yan, sa may unahan lang..."

"Yeah, I will just look for some help..." I answered him and looked around, nadaanan ko na rin naman ang repair noon kaya alam ko.

I stopped when I saw the woman I just saw still standing there, nabakas ko ang gulat sa bilugan niyang mga itim na mga mata nang makita ako.

She blinked, her pouty reddish lips protruding.

"I think I found someone..." I told him, still staring at that girl who looked flabbergasted as she stared at me.

Lumapit ako, bahagya naman siyang umatras kaya nagulat ako roon.

"No..." I said softly. Natigil naman siya roon pero nanatiling nakatingin sa akin. "I won't hurt you..."

She didn't speak, nanatili lang siyang nakatitig sa akin at doon ako halos mamangha habang nakatingin sa maamo at inosente niyang mukha.

"Uh, I just want to ask for some help. I am not a bad person, don't worry..." I told her but I knew where the repair shop was, sa unahan lang iyon, panigurado.
