BLIND KAGEYAMA AU - Listen to my Voice

• one last time •

Kageyama POV
I groggily get out of bed as my alarm blares in my ear.

I feel around, and end up turning it off after about a minute.

Telling Hinata and the rest of the team that the only treatment available is in Australia isn't going to be easy.

My mum told me I had to make a decision by tonight.

Hinata was by my door like he was every morning.

"You ready to go?" he said, his voice shaking a little.

"Hey, you ok?" I said calmly.

"How about you set for me after school today?" he said, completely avoiding the question.

I give him an obvious smirk.

"Duh"

The day went as it normally did, although the team didn't have practice today since the day ended early.

That gave Hinata and I time and place to practice.

I did significantly better than yesterday, making at least fifteen decent sets before Hinata said, "So... you wanna try that freak quick?"

I had completely forgotten he'd wanted to try it.

"I umm..." I start. "I don't know if I can"

"Sure you can!" Hinata says, oblivious to my raging anxiety. "Look, even if you do mess up, nobody's here"

"You're here"

"I'm always here.... just listen to my voice and you'll be fine"

I hear him position himself to where he stands in games.

"I'm gonna go now" he says, "You ready?"

"I umm..."

Before I even had a chance to say anything, I heard the squeaking of my spiker's shoe, the sound I've heard at least a million times.

It stops when it gets close to the net.

Whoosh

Hinata takes off.

"Over here!" he shouts and claps his hand once.

I can hear it.
I can hear it all.

The time of his jump.
The sound of his voice.
The clap of his hands.

I form my hands into a triangle shape, just like I'd done my whole life.

I push the ball out and up.

"Here!"

Before the ball hits the floor however, I hear a big thump.

"Ow" Hinata says.

"Dumbass! I told you, you didn't know how to clap in mid air"

"But you heard it didn't you"

I did.
I really did.
And I loved it.

"Get up!" I say. "Let's do it again."

"Again?"

"Sorry Kageyama, this is hard you know?"

"Kageyama!" Hinata screamed at me. "Did you hear that?"

"Did you just... hit the ball?"

"Barely!" he responds "But it was so cool!"
