he sits there, staring at the letter in his hands, tempted to roll his eyes because who the fuck is this and why are they so cliché and cryptic?

shoving it back into his pocket, he smiles at his parents while they all sit by the tree.

for christmas, he gets a new soccer ball and a laptop.

he thanks his parents with a hug.

he's trying.

trying to improve himself. trying to be to be a better son, a better friend, a better everything.

so after he transfers all his data to the new laptop, he opens it up and begins typing.
