It was currently 5 am, the sound of Abigail's phone dinging was what woke her up. She was usually a heavy sleeper, but after not being used to sleeping alone for so long, she woke up a lot easier.

Staying asleep was harder without the comfort of feeling the side of the bed dip whenever Kayleigh shifted in her sleep. Or when her wife would subconsciously pull her gently by the waist back to cuddle into her more. She just missed the heat and warmth of sharing a bed with someone.

The sound that had woken her up was a text message from Meredith. Cristina Yang had been nominated for the Harper Avery. Abigail had met Cristina along with a lot of other people on her first day as an attending. They all seemed nice enough but meeting so many people in one day was a little daunting.

When it came to the Harper Avery award, waiting for the nominee's was properly the most tedious part. Abigail, like Meredith new this whole rigmarole like the back of her hand, but I guess that's what happens when your mother is nominated 5 times. Each time their mother was nominated both Abigail and Meredith would be perched on the end of Ellis' bed at exactly 5 in the morning waiting for the call, much to her dismay.

Abigail new that Cristina being on the nomination list was a big deal for Grey Sloan Mermorial, and of course for Cristina and her current conduit trial. Abby had to admit, the work she did, was impressive. Not many people could've thought of the idea, let alone execute it successfully. But yet she couldn't help but feel the twang of jealously, even though she barely knew the woman.

As Abigail typed out a reply to her sister, she realised that most of the work day would be spent congratulating Dr Yang, and rightfully so. She deserved it, and Abigail knew that without a doubt.

Abigail was stood next to Derek with Zola and Bailey, while he showed Callie and Arizona the video Meredith had sent them both of when Cristina got the call. "Ahh Cristina got nominated." Callie sang in excitement. "Wait she's wearing lipstick at 5 am?" Abigail couldn't help but let out a dry chuckle.

She knew that Meredith had given her the lipstick to wear - because their mother would always put it on whilst waiting for the call. The two children had never understood why she did it, nobody was going to see her apart from the two of them. But Ellis still put it on every time.

Just then a young girl named Frankie, a patient whose siblings and herself are suffering from cardiomyopathy, although she seemed to be doing better than the other two, walked by. But before she could walk past Arizona called to her. "Hey, Frankie. We're gonna round soon so don't be late."

"Okay." The girl replied quite happily to say her family practically lived in the hospital. "Alright, we should get these guys in the daycare, and I'll see you at the MEG." Derek said as he slowly started pushing Baileys pushchair.

"Alright, I'll meet you there." Callie called back, her excitement audible in her voice. As Derek and Abigail walked through the hallway towards the daycare Abigail looked to Derek, her eyebrows furrowed in questioning. "You guys got a MEG?" Of course Abigail knew about Derek and Callies trial at the moment, and the yet again she had to say she was impressed.

Abby has always wanted to use a MEG, the technology and its capabilities have always been something to be able to dream of using. She's never known anyone get access to one so early in a trial. But then again, what she knows about Derek Shepherd, it doesn't surprise her that he managed to get one.
