Bloodstained Boulder

The winds howl. I shiver and pull my jacket closer to my freezing body. Normally I was used to this weather, but the dread of loosing my family was so big, that everything seemed cold.

Suddenly the ground rumbled.

My eyes widen with terror, but it was too late.

"Japan!"

You walk up the council tower.

Finally you reach the top. You look down into the crowd and watch the countless yellow, green and orange houses. Doves flew through the air. The sun was already starting to set.

It's almost winter already.

A cool wind swarms the tower. You shiver, teeth starting to chatter.
"You cold?" Romania murmurs, next to you.
You nod. He takes of his coat and gives it to you.
"Thanks you." You smile.
"So cliché." Russia whispers next to you, probably not meant for you to hear.
"He was just being nice." You whisper back.
She looks at you surprised, then she turns her head away from you.

You snicker at her behavior. Then you look out the window again, enjoying the view.

What a wonderful place to be right now. I'm happy just the way things are right now. I hope this can last forever.

I grunted, pain blurring my vision.

"Leave without me." I grumbled.
"We can't just leave you here, Japan."Switzerland says.
"But your family.."
"We can't just leave you here." He says again, a bit louder.

I looked at the boulder, that had slid down the cliff and completely destroyed the lower half of my body. The swirling of the dark wall got louder.

"Go!" I snap.
Switzerland and China hesitated.

China shifted nervously.

Is that guilt in his eyes?

"You should go." China says, his voice weirdly calm and determined. "You have someone to go back home to. I'll stay with Japan."

China is willing to stay here with ME?

Switzerland looked at me, then at China. Despair and sorrow clouded his eyes.

"Are you sure?"
"Of course I'm sure!" China snaps.
Switzerland nervously shifts, then he hugged China and patted his back.
"Thank you."
China looked surprised, as if he had never expected anyone to ever be grateful towards him. But he smiled, and even hugged back.

Whoa. That's a first.

Then Switzerland squatted down next to me.

"I guess I'll see you there sooner or later. Can you tell my family there, I miss them?" He rasped.

I nod. "Of course I will."

He smiles a sad and weary smile down at me, takes my hand and squeezes it slightly. Then he slowly gets up and hesitantly, while keep looking over his shoulder, he left.

We sit down on the little grass hill.

"This is the Danube delta park." Romania murmurs.
"The sunset looks beautiful here." You whisper back.
Romania looks at you and smiles. The put his hand onto your arm on the other side of you and pulls you closer.

"I can't wait for the moon."

You smile.

"I love the moon."

You gaze out to the river. It sparkled and shimmered orange, mirroring the sunset.
You close your eyes and listen to the wind. A crow was cawing. And the trees rustling...

You were standing on a hilltop, a weird whirling sound was behind you. You widen your eyes in shock. A big black wall was rolling down the mountain behind you.

"I hope Switzerland finds his way home." You hear a voice behind you. You turn around and look down the cliff you were standing on. Underneath it lay a completely crushed Japan. Next to him China.

Another dream.

Japan shivers and groans in pain from moving. China looks down at him. Guilt was written all over his face.

Japan's eyes teared. He quickly hides his face and wipes them off.

He then throws a quick glance at China to see if he noticed.

"What?" He asks, after he saw China looking at him with his despaired face expression.

"I couldn't save us." He rasps. "I had the responsibility after USA and Russia disappeared, but I failed. I can't even protect YOU."

Japan didn't know what to respond to that. He just turned away.

Blood had flown out from under the rock that buried half of Japan's body underneath it.

China bends down to his height and takes his hand. Japan glared at him for a second, but then his gaze softens.

"Thanks... for staying here with me." He murmurs.
"I couldn't ever leave anyone to die on their own. Stop making this sound cheesy." China tried to sound like it wasn't a big deal, but his eyes sparkled a little happier.

Japan chuckled. "You stay yourself until you die. Always have your moody mask on, but underneath you are friendly. I've finally seen it now."

China opened his mouth to say something, but he closed it again.

"See. You know it's true." Japan said laying his head back down and closed his eyes.

Suddenly coldness covers you whole. A weird humming entered your head. Blinded all of your senses for the first few seconds. The you were able to hear again. But there was nothing to feel but coldness.

You Heard Japan coughing. He wimpered. Your lungs started to burn and you started to freeze and shiver.

Your eyes felt like they were on fire, or someone spilled acid onto them.

China also started coughing.

"You didn't have to do this. Why did you not just leave with Switzerland?" Japan rasped.
"Because it was my duty to stay here." China simply replied.
Japan sighs.

Suddenly your lungs start to tear apart. As if there was something trying to get out of it. You could tell that the same was happening to the other two.

Japan let out sobs of pain while China desperately tried to breath, but could only let out muffled gasp.

They're going to die!

You could imagine the two, curled up on the hard rock floor, trying to breathe, but failing to. Still keeping hold of each other's hands, because that was the only comfort left for them.

Even though they never really liked each other, final moments brought them together as friends.

You collapse to the hard rock floor.

If this is a dream, why does it feel so real?

Blood crawled up your throat. You cough and choke.

"Are you okay?" You heard a distant voice.

Romania?

"They're having a nightmare."
"Wake up!"
