-Harry-

"Harry" skyler spoke up after several moments of silence "Did you hear what i said?"

I couldn't seem to produce a responce. Shock had taken over my body. As soon as Skyler's mom said that she wanted to take Skyler home, I became worried. But I didn't think she would actually do it.

"Harry"

"Y-yeah" I shook my  head, finally able to speak "I heard"

"So what do you think?" she asked

"I think that you can't-" I stopped myself. Thought I wanted to fight for her to stay; all I want is her happiness. That's all i've ever wanted... No matter how much it hurts me.

I lowered my voice before I continued "I think you should do whatever makes you happy"

"It's just been so long since I've had parents it seems like" Skyler began "It's like they were non existent. I've missed them"

I nodded, keeping my gaze away from her

"Oh isn't this great?" Skyler bit her lip trying to keep in her excitement "I wasn't sure at first what to feel when I saw my mother again. And I know it's kind of weird for anyone in their twenties to want to go move in with their parents, but-"

"Could you help me get the glasses?" I asked, needing to stop her before I lost my composure

"Oh, sure"

We decorated the table with dishes and silverware. Mrs. Kelly made her entrance as soon as we were finished

"Harry dear, you need to fix up your bathroom. Those fixtures are decades old"

"I'll get right on that" I say in mono tone "Shall we?" I unenthusiastically point to the food

Dinner was filled with conversation about Mandee's plans for Skyler once she's settled again at home. I tried to block most of it out. The last thing I wanted to think about was not having Skyler with me anymore.

"Oh and they built this darling new bakery right on East street. Walking distance from the park." Mrs. Kelly added to the never ending conversation

"We have a bakery here" I comment "Their red velvet is to die for" I mock her attitude.

I feel bad for being sarcastic with this woman, but she's taking away Skyler. My sarcasm is my only defense

"I think I passed by it on the way here. It looked pretty run down if you ask me" She chuckled before lifting her water glass to her lips

"What about that mexican place you love so much, Skye?" I inquire "You always like to eat there"

"Oh I love-"

"We have so many Mexican resteraunts back home" Skyler was cut off by Mandee "Much nicer ones"

The room was consumed in awkward silence for the umpteenth time tonight

"Speaking of nicer" Mrs. Kelly kept her eyes on her plate "I couldn't help that your house could use a little bit of updating"

"Mother" Skyler furrowed her brow at the woman beside her.

Skyler never talked about her parents much. Let alone told me how rude her mother was. I would have never guessed this was the kind of upbringing Skyler grew up in. She's humble. Unlike this woman.

"You've mentioned" I retort

"Oh, no" she waved her hand "I mentioned your bathroom. Now I'm talking about your whole house, dear" She laughed "Don't take it personally. Everyone's house could use work now and again. I'm sure if you had the money you would take care of it. No need to feel embarrassed" she sent a smile-fake I'm sure- my way
