Amaya's POV

My brother can not be anymore embarrassing.

Maddy and I have been at my parent's residence for almost 2 hours and ever since he returned from his track club he's just been flirting with her.

Get this, he's 17 and she's 23. Nothing is ever and will ever happen between them. Maddy just looks so uncomfortable.

"Bhavin Ahamed, அவளை விட்டுவிடு, உனக்கு என்ன பிரச்சனை?" my mother shouted from across the living room. I translated what she said to Maddy since she's not fluent in Tamil, she knows a few phrases though.

(Leave her alone what's wrong with you? Avaḷai viṭṭuviṭu, uṉakku eṉṉa piraccaṉai)

"You need to find someone your age" my sister, Nalini said as she walked into the room and sat next to my mum who was sat next to Maddy's mum. She's only 25, so she's not that much older than me.

Nalini was what you would call the rebel child, I'm grateful for her because her rebelling against my parents conservative views gave me a chance to do so too. She has some tattoos and piercings. My parents thought they were fake as she wore fake ones around the house until getting the real ones.

She's also less annoying and flirty with my friends.

Now pretty much all parents of colour want their kids to be doctors, lawyers, engineers and so on. Maddy was just lucky that she actually wanted to be a lawyer, her mum called almost everyone she could recall and boasted about how her daughter was a lawyer. Her brother will run their family business after his father retires next year since he's always wanted to and it's never really been in Maddy's interest.

My sister on the other hand went to uni for engineering but never told our parents that she also went to fashion school until she graduated from uni and told them that she wanted to be a fashion designer. Even though, my dad was telling all his relatives that Nalini would be an engineer.

My dad actually fainted that day. They were livid until she started a clothing brand and it turned into an overnight success. That's when they were fine with her job and she's been doing really good for herself.

They weren't too keen on me being a fashion editor but they let it go once they saw the pay which wasn't too bad.

My dad works at a bank and he's being paid above average. It's obvious with the size of this house. My parents actually met at the bank but my mum's a brain surgeon and Maddy's mum is a midwife. So when they used to want us in a medical profession, we couldn't even say that they weren't in one themselves. For Bhavin, my dad is making sure that he has a job in a field like engineering or medicine since his daughters don't.

"Just because you two can't get a man, doesn't mean I can't get a woman" Bhavin pointed at my sister and I. Little did he know I already have a man, not officially but still. I have one.
