ONCE UPON A TIME . . . Gabriella Mayfield and Annabeth Chase were the best of friends. They basically did everything together; sparring sessions, makeovers (where Annabeth was forced against her will by Gabriella), getting revenge on the Stoll brothers — you name it. The daughter of Athena and the daughter of Aphrodite were the best duo around.
Then Percy Jackson came.
From the moment she saw him, Gabriella wanted to hate him. It would've been so much easier to. How come he got the go on quests with Annabeth and she didn't? What was so special about him?
Everyone seemed to like him. Annabeth clearly did, although she may act annoyed with him all the time. And even Melody, another one of Gabriella's best friends, became starstruck by his heroicness. Gabriella hated it.
As she got to know him, however, Gabriella soon came to an unfortunate conclusion: Percy Jackson was actually a cool person.
Sure, he can be an annoying little shit at times, but he has a lot of other redeeming qualities. For instance, he really does care about his friends, specifically Annabeth. He even snuck on a quest to save her, and held the sky for her.
It was no surprise to Gabriella when Annabeth finally came to her with her realization of her feelings for the son of Poseidon. She could tell from a mile away. As the daughter of Aphrodite, and as Annabeth's best friend, it is her duty to help them get together.
Even if it meant breaking her own heart in the process.
