"Mrs. Whitlock, just this once. Please, let me see him. I'm begging you," I pleaded desperately in front of his mother, her stern expression emphasizing the weariness in her swollen eyes.

Fear and worry gripped me, and I needed to know if he was
okay, if he had woken up.

I'd been sleeping outside the hospital for days, forming bonds with some of the nurses
in the process.

Vivienne, however, adamantly denied my requests to see Thaddeus, and it tore at my heart.

My appetite had vanished, and I'd barely taken care of myself, only returning home once to change my blood-stained clothes.

"I told you, I don't want you anywhere near my son. Is that so hard for you to understand, Seraphina?" she yelled, frustration lacing her words.

"I'll do anything you ask, but please, don't push me away like this, Vivienne. Please," I pleaded through my sobs, but she remained unmoved.

"Do you think I'm happy about how things have turned out? I'm not. But this is my son we're talking about, my only son. I've always supported your relation ship,
but not when it's hurting him. You see, Seraphina, I've been scared for my son for a long time."

"What... what do you mean?" I stammered, tears trickling down my face to my chapped lips.

"I've been scared ever since Thad started having trouble sleeping if you weren't beside him. He was becoming obsessed with you, and you knew it!" She gritted out,
her frustration and concern clear in her voice.

I swallowed hard, a lump forming in my throat as I wondered if her words held any truth.

"He wasn't," I whispered, but it felt feeble in the face of her accusations.

"You made him that way, Seraphina. That's why he's still in a coma. He hasn't opened his eyes. Do you know how badly I've yearned to see my son awake again? Let me make something clear - I'll ensure he never crosses paths with you again. I don't want a toxic girl like you near my son. So please, go as far away from us as you can. From Thaddeus," she yelled, her words cutting through me as she stormed
past, brushing against my shoulder.

I slumped onto the cold floor outside the hospital, my life crumbling around me. I
wanted to cry, but my eyes were dry, and my body felt devoid of strength. I just sat there, staring at the ground.

Everything had changed overnight, all because of a foolish mistake - not answering a phone call.

Present

I dropped my handbag onto the chair and slumped into it, letting out a heavy sigh. Luna wagged her tail and disappeared into another room while I got up to pour myself a glass of water from the jug in the dining area.

As I settled back into the chair, my phone buzzed with a message from Lys, asking if I would be available tomorrow. I replied with a simple "Yes" and
then received a message from Clara.

"Thank you for showing up today, Sera," -Clara

I sent a reply and sighed once more as his face continued to haunt my thoughts.

How could he resemble him so much? I had left him in that city years ago.

Had he moved to this city? Was he really Thad? His mother had assured me that I'd never come across him again, so how was this happening?
