Nareum's pov
Jake gave everyone a day off work today, so I was at home binge watching a kdrama in my living room right now. I've been invested in it since this morning.
My parents were staying at my grandparent's house, so I was home alone. My phone rang and I picked it up to see that it was Jake calling.
"Hello?"
I paused the tv as I spoke.
"I need you to be ready soon. I'm coming to pick you up. I'm bringing you to my house because my dad is gonna talk to us"
Jake said.
"About?"
I asked.
"Us being together, I'll tell you more later because I'm driving"
He answered.
"Oh okay, see you later"
I said and ended the call.
I turned off the tv and then went to get ready quickly.
By then, a car honked outside. I grabbed a few necessities and left to get into Jake's car.
"Sorry for the last minute plan, sweetheart"
He slipped his hand into mine as he started to drive.
"It's okay"
I told him and we stopped at a red light.
"I've been meaning to talk to you about this...and I'm sorry if it seems sudden. But..would you marry me if I asked?"
He looked at me.
I heard that correctly, didn't I?
"Is this your proposal?"
I asked back.
"No, and yes. My father wants us married or he'll marry me off to the woman you saw that day at my office. And you know me, I only want you in my life"
He squeezed my hand slightly.
"Marriage is a huge thing to talk about, but as of now, I'll go with it. I won't risk seeing you being someone else's"
I avoided eye contact with him.
Jake laughed, and I frowned at him.
"What??"
I shook his hand slightly, wondering what he thought was funny.
"Surprised to see you being protective"
He responded.
"Shut up"
I then let go of his hand.
Jake held back his laughter as the car started moving when the light changed to green.
Can't I be protective of what's mine?
Timeskip
(At his house)
I bowed to Jake's dad who was sitting on the living room couch. Jake and I then sat down next to each other.
"I suppose my son has told you about what I wanted to talk about today, Nareum"
He sipped on a cup of tea.
"I'm aware. And, I plan on marrying him"
I told him straightforwardly.
"Really?"
He looked quite puzzled.
"Is there a problem?"
I asked.
He was at a loss of words. I didn't expect that reaction from him.
"B-but either way, you will not marry Jaeyun!"
He put down his cup, his voice getting louder.
"And why is that?"
I asked calmly.
"He's marrying another woman. A woman in his league"
He said firmly.
"What are you talking about? You said to confirm marrying Nareum if I didn't want want to end up with Mr Nam's daughter"
Jake stepped into the conversation.
