⎯⎯⎯  𝐈𝐍 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄,

ISABEL HUMMED TO THE SZA SONG PLAYING FROM HER PHONE AS SHE FINISHED PLATING DINNER. Gabbie and Kate had left a few hours ago in a rush, mumbling something about Bluder calling a mandatory practice. So, Isabel figured she would cook them a nice meal instead of ordering takeout like they usually did.

Though, she was beginning to wonder when they would get back. Practices usually lasted anywhere between two to three hours, and by now it had been 4 and a half hours since they had left. She had already texted Kate, but as expected, she hadn't gotten a text back.

However, Isabel just brushed it off on Bluders anticipation and drive to win the game against Iowa State tomorrow night. It was a big in state rival that was sure to get a lot of attention, so the Hawkeyes losing wasn't an option to the coach.

Just as Isabel finished pouring her glass of water, the door to the apartment opened. She sat the glass down beside her plate before grabbing another two cups for Gabbie and Kate.

"Hey, Is, can you come here for a sec?" Kate's voice echoed through the house. Isabel smiled at her girlfriend's voice, glad that she was finally home—even though she didn't technically live there, Isabel liked to think she did. She was there most nights, anyways.

She exited the kitchen, rounding the corner to the entryway. The sight of blonde hair, that didn't belong to Kate, made her stop in her tracks, dropping the towel that was in her hand from wiping down the counter. Lacy stood in front of Kate, a wide smile on her face.

"Thought I'd surprise you this time instead of Gabbie," Lacy said, opening her arms out for a hug. Isabel ran full speed towards her, collapsing into her arms as soon as she reached her. The two of them squeezed each other for dear life, never wanting the other to slip away.

"How? What?" Isabel stumbled over her words, giggles coming out in between.

Lacy turned to Kate who was still standing beside her near the door and smiled. "All credit to Kate Martin."

Isabel cocked her head at her girlfriend, looking at the girl in nothing but admiration. Kate truly was the light and love of her life. There was nothing that Kate wouldn't do for Isabel, and everyone knew that. She was head over heels for the brunette in every universe.
