"Viz ish sho goof!" I said through my food. Colton shook his head, chuckling.

"Gross." He joked, scrunching up his nose. I have him a toothy smile once I had swallowed my food.

"How's your face feeling?" I asked, wiping the corners of my mouth with a napkin.

His face looked much better than the day of the party, which was good news. The wounds had cleared up, so they just looked like scratches. His cheek was still bruised, but not as badly as before. It was now a lighter purple, yellow type color. I was actually quite surprised he had healed so fast.

"Better." He said with a nod.

"Good." I replied, sipping on my second chocolate milkshake. "This is the best milkshake I have ever had." I commented, playing with my straw.

"Yeah, they're good."

What do I say now? This conversation isn't going anywhere, and an awkward silence is on the horizon.

I can feel it.

"Hey Colton?"

"Yeah?" He asked, looking at me with soft, welcoming eyes.

"Thanks for today. It really helped." I said, giving him a genuine smile. He returned my smile, and nodded.

"Anytime." Just as Colton was about to say something else, a phone rang. I knew it wasn't mine, so I just nodded my head at Colton.

"It's you." I said, drinking the rest of my milkshake. Colton frowned slightly as he checked his phone.

I stared at his forehead, watching wrinkles appear as his frown deepened.

"Hey. Yeah, he's out. Vincent, I don't care, he brought it on himself. Look, I can't talk about this right now." He paused, sending a glance to me. "No. Thanks, bye." He sighed as he shoved his phone back in his pocket.

"Everything ok?" I asked. He nodded quickly.

"Of course everything is ok, why wouldn't it be ok? Everything is good in the hood." I raised an eyebrow as he rushed the words out.

"You sure about that?"

"Yep. Super sure." He said, putting a lot of emphasis on the 'r' in the words.

"You know, I can tell when someone is lying." I stated, twiddling my thumbs around one another, giving him a pointed look.

After a few moments of an eye staring contest, Colton sighed.

"That guy that I beat up," he said harshly, glaring at the table. "He was part of...a gang. Our gang." He seemed like he struggled with the word.

Oh Jesus. I'm in the middle of a gang war?

"Continue." I said calmly, trying not to let how scared I am show.

"I kicked him out." He stated calmly, shrugging.

"That's probably not the smartest idea." I said. Colton rose a questioning eyebrow. "I mean, he could go rogue. He could sell off your information." He sat straighter at the mention of rogue.

"He deserved it." Colton grumbled. I rolled my eyes.

What a child.

"For Christ's sake Colton, he called me a bitch. He didn't threaten to kill me or anything." Colton shook his head.
