I ran my hands over my pants and sighed. "Josie's still knocked out."

James chuckled, "What the hell did you give her?"

"Some lean, a little marijuana, y'know..."

He jumped out of his seat. "You did what?"

I keeled over in laughter holding my stomach. "Y-you have no type of sense."

"You drugged my daughter and you're laughing?" He exclaimed as he began pacing.

Still laughing, I fell onto the couch in James's living room and spread out. "You're so dim!"

"Mia, I can't believe you'd g-..." He stopped, noticing how hard I was laughing. "You're joking aren't you?"

I gave a short nod. "Babes, you know I'm crazy, but I'm not insane. There's a difference."

James chuckled as he lifted up my legs off the couch before sitting down and placing them on his lap.

Oh?

"I feel bad for your future children and husband," He snorted, "They're going to have to live with a psychopath."

I rolled my eyes jokingly. "My mom was crazy and look, I turned out fine."

James looked at me confused, most likely because I said my mom was crazy. Instead of allowing him to get a question in, I continued and changed the subject.

I cleared my throat. "Speaking of children and husbands, what happened to Josie's mom? I mean, if you don't mind me asking..."

Even though it was a subject changer, I was honestly interested. I mean, I've been over here four dozen times in the past couple months and I'd never seen signs that a woman lived here, pictures of any woman, or even heard Josie or James talk about her.

I'd come to the conclusion that she wasn't in their lives, but I kinda wanted to know why.

James looked away from me and to a spot across the room, his jaw suddenly clenched. "That's a sore subject."

I looked away too, feeling bad for making things awkward. "Sorry I asked."

We sat in silence for a few more minutes before I cleared my throat and began to stand up.

"Well, I should probably get go-"

"No," James grabbed my hand and looked up at me with soft eyes, "Don't go yet."

Sighing, I sat back down and rested my legs on him again. For the second time, we sat in silence before James took a deep breath and began speaking.

"When I was 15, I met this girl named Julianna. When I say that she was the perfect girl, I mean she was the perfect girl. She was that girl in high school who's the complete package, but nobody ever pays attention to her, y'know?

We started dating in the middle of sophomore year, and by the end of it, we found out she was pregnant. Her parents were overjoyed to hear the news but to say my dad was pissed would've been the understatement of the year. Stiller Incorporated just started getting popular and my dad thought that she planned this to get rich or something.
