Chapter 9

"You don't have to bring that much," I said to Jason, watching as he stuffed more clothes in the same giant luggage as mine. "We're going to go shopping once we get there anyways so there's no point really."

He pointed. "But I wanna bring this sweater," he whined.

"Jason, it's gonna be hot in Arizona." I then smiled when I recalled something that I knew would get through Jason's head. "If you sweat too much, which is what will happen when you bring that sweater, your hair will fall out," I told him.

Jason threw the sweater away and grabbed thinner clothes. That kid really cares about his hair, I just hope he doesn't use that much hair products when he's older. Those cost a fortune.

After packing everything that we needed, we brought the luggage to the pick up truck that could seat four people. Layton grabbed the luggage and dropped it in the back before looking at us. "Ready?" he asked.

We both nodded before he let Jason and I get in the backseat while Levi and Layton were in the front. We were currently alone in the car since Layton and Levi had to deal with something inside the car that I drove to here. I used this alone time to ask Jason a question that I've been wanting to ask.

"Jason? How's Haley doing?" I asked, "and why wasn't she there when I came back?"

"Haley keep crying and asking where you were. I say I don't know. She keep being sad with Lucas so I sing song to make them feel better," he explained.

I nodded looking down. It made sense that both Haley and Lucas were sad, and it made me feel even more terrible that I couldn't do anything about it. "Where was she?" I asked.

"She go to piano re..re...retreat and Lucas has soccer game in California," he said. "They call for nanny for me but she no show up." It almost made me laugh that he pronounced California wrong. Almost.

It did make me feel better knowing that even while I was gone, Jason was being taken care of by Lucas and Haley. As for the nanny, I was glad I showed up at the time I did. I didn't need the nanny there seeing me and informing Haley and Lucas about me.

I still had no idea what to say to them about why I left and why I look so different. With how I look, I actually feel like I'm almost in the same level as Haley and Lucas were. If only this look didn't come with the life that it did.

"I have to cancel the nanny..." I mumbled to myself.

"Don't fret little one, I already did," Levi said, tossing a duffel bag in the passenger side.

How did he manage to hear me say that? "I was mumbling how'd you hear?" I asked, looking at him weirdly.

Levi groaned. "Are you for real Braska? I get you're in denial and all but come on, I expected more from a straight-A student," he said, shaking his head as if disappointed. "We. Are. Vampires," he spoke slowly like I was a kid.

I rolled my eyes at him. "Alright geesh. Sometimes it's hard to remember that when I'm still thinking that vampires aren't suppose to exist!"

"Well they do so tough luck sweetheart," Layton interrupted, climbing in the driver seat. He looked back at Jason and me before motioning for Levi to get in the truck. After we were all buckled in, he started the car and started to drive.

We've only been driving for maybe five minutes before my younger brother started his annoying habit. "Are we there yet?" he whined.

"We just started driving," Levi replied. His tone wasn't threatening or annoyed but I could tell from his expression that he was going to get really annoyed of Jason asking that.
