Jamal and I sat on the bed minding our business as my phone rang again. I checked the caller ID and it was Amar, what does he want from me ?, I want him to leave me alone.
I kept on rejecting the call as hajiya yelled my name from downstairs.
" Ameerah " she yelled
" na'am " I answered as I crawled down the bed and went downstairs.
I pray this old lady leaves this house anytime soon cause am seriously not enjoying her stay in this house.
" gani nan ( am here ) " I said to hajiya as she eyed me up and down
" zainab is thirsty, go to the kitchen and get her some water " hajiya said as I breathed a laugh.
Is she kidding me. She's seriously not expecting me to go to the kitchen and get water for zainab. This woman is really getting on my nerves wallahi.
" am sorry hajiya but I can't " I said folding my arm as she yelled Jamal's name.
" Dan auta, Dan auta, sauko nan " she yelled as Jamal came down the stairs.
" what happened again mum ?" Jamal asked
" can you imagine this thing you call a wife refused to get water for me to drink " hajiya lied as my jaw dropped.
What a old lier she is.
" she's lying Jamal, it's not true " I defended myself as Jamal yelled at me
" are you trying to say my mother is lying " Jamal asked as zainab interrupted. " I wonder wo " .
" but.. " he cut me off before I could complete my statement
" listen here , the next time you disrespect my mum ever again, I swear to God Ameerah you would regret it " Jamal said as he walked back upstairs.
" shegiya har iska, aii ni kika so kiyima iskanchi. Shegiya doluwa tashi ah gaba na Kafun hin kwashe ki da mari " hajiya insulted as tears dropped down my cheeks.
This is not marriage, this is pure maltreatment and stupidity. First it was Jamal who was abnormal, now it's his mum who is taking over the madness. I think it's in the family.
