A fit of coughing is how Jace reacts to the water, pushing the bacteria-infested liquid from her mouth and throat while trying to take in air with greed. Rue does something similar, however holding onto a rock as Ace swims in the river's clear waters.
" Rue?" Ace coughs, looking around for her. When her sight meets Rue, she swims over, placing her body weight on the rock as well. " You okay?" The latter can only nod her head, her body trying to slow her breathing and her heart rate.
Each are able to calm themselves, despite feeling they just had a heart attack. Minutes pass before Jace climbs out, helping Rue as well out of the water. Ace shakes her head like a mutt, some water leaving her hair.
" Jace! Jace!" Rue whisper-yells, tugging at the elder's sleeve. Ace follows Rue's hand, her eyes widening as she sees Rue is pointing at the Careers walking their way.
