It has been two years since she left. I’ve heard nothing from her again. Bea and I would usually bump into each other during parties or night outs, but we never got the chance to open up a topic about her. And besides, I’m kind of happy with Gabby narin. She’s been really sweet and supportive and all. I don’t think it’s right to have contact pa with Yana or anything as such. Although alam kong hinding-hindi ko siya makakalimutan.
And yes..I’m trying so hard to give up on her.
“Hey, Rhys!” Bigla akong napalingon at nakita si Bea.
“Bea.. kumusta na?” I asked.
“Ayos naman.. been months since we last saw each other.” She then looked around. “Where’s Gabby?”
“Hmm, di kami magkasama. She has a class eh. I’ll meet her around 7.” I smiled.
“Ohhh.. Anyway, nagkita ba kayo ni Yana?” Bigla akong napatingin kay Bea.
“Nagkita?”
“Yeah. She was here kaya last week.” She smiled again. “I mean.. I don’t mean anything by this naman ha? It’s been years narin since you parted ways, so I know wala na..” She smiled innocently.
“Right.” I sipped on my cup. “Hmm, we weren’t able to see each other. Ni hindi ko nga alam na bumalik siya.” I chuckled.
“Gabby didn’t mention?”
“No.” I shook my head. “Teka, alam ba ni Gabby?”
“Yeah, of course. We had an-all girls nightout kaya last Saturday.” Nagsimula na siyang magtaka.
“Right. She mentioned na lalabas kayo.. pero she didn’t mention na bumalik si Yana.”
“Oh. Maybe she just forgot.” She smiled and looked outside the window. “Vincent will be here any minute now.” She smiled again. “You might want to catch up with each other.”
“Yeah sure. Matagal-tagal ko narin siyang di nakikita.”
7pm, Ateneo.
“Hey babe.” Gabby kissed me.
“Hey..”
“Something wrong?”
“Wala naman.” Pilit kong ngumiti sa kanya. “Hmm, you had a nightout with the Lourdes girls last Sat diba?”
“Yeah.. why?”
“Yana was there, right?”
“O-oo. Bakit?”
“Hmm, hindi mo namention saken.”
“H-hindi ba? Well, yeah. She came back for a vacation. Break daw sa kanila e.”
“Ahhh..”
“Why are you askin?”
“Wala lang. Nagkita kami nina Vincent kanina e, Bea mentioned that you had a nightout daw nung Saturday.. with Yana.” Hindi ko inalis ang mata ko sa daan. I’m afraid that if I look at Gabby, my eyes will betray me.
“Ba’t mo tinatanong?” Her voice sounded firm and it was asking for an answer.
Tumahimik lang ako.
“Rhys, tinatanong kita! Ba’t moko tinatanong tungkol kay Yana?!”
“Gabby, don’t make such a big deal about this. I’m just asking.” I answered calmly.
She suddenly turned silent and then I heard sobs.
“Crap! Ba’t ka umiiyak?” Hininto ko ang sasakyan sa gilid and then I looked at her. “Gabby, come on..”
“You still love her.. huhuhu.. you still do.”
“No Gabby..”
“No! You stil do Rhys!”
“I dont.. ano ba.. I love you.”
“Si Yana parin.. si Yana..”
“Gabby, hinde. Ikaw ang mahal ko. I was just asking kasi magkaibigan rin naman kami.. it doesnt mean na mahal ko parin siya..”
“No..”
“Gabby.. ikaw ang mahal ko.. okay?” I held her face and stared at her eyes. “Ikaw.”
“Rhys..”
“I love you.” And I kissed her.
I do, right?
