Chapter 2

Harley tried to get into contact with her dad; she really did. She needed closure, to understand. How could something so good, go so wrong, so fast? Sadly, that closure wasn't something she ever had the chance to get. Despite how many texts, calls, letters, and emails she sent him, she never got a response. Eventually, her texts didn't deliver, and her calls went straight to voicemail. It was finally time she faced the music; she wasn't good enough for him. Her dad didn't want her.

Harley learned a lot she didn't know before. Her family was a bloodline of "hunters" of the supernatural. Alayna, however, said Harley had a different destiny. When she tried to learn more, Alayna shut down, saying she'd learn when the "time was right." She didn't need to be a killer if she didn't want. If she did, well, she could be the best one they've ever seen.

Regardless, Alayna had her eating way healthier than she ever has before, and working out in ways she never knew existed. The little 11 year-old girl who had her heart broken has now matured into a 16 year-old teen who is 5'7 with 140-150 ish pounds of pure muscle. Ever since her whole issue with her dad, Harley started to burrow further and further into herself. She became more closed off, guarded, and way less vulnerable. She was determined to never let her heart get broken again. Alayna told her she needs to be strong for what's to come.

Heartbreak, however, is a topic for another time. Right now, she's on her way to chemistry class, when she sees two boys in front of her. Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski, she notes. Used to be nobodies. Now, Scott's a freak of nature that has a seemingly on-again-off-again puppy dog love with the relatively new girl, Allison Argent. Stiles himself didn't seem to change much, beside the sudden boost in popularity with Lydia Martin. They all seem to have high tensions with Vernon Boyd, Isaac Lahey, and Erica Reyes. Harley used to sort of be friends with Erica; acquaintances, at the very least. Both loners who had each other. Then, one day, Erica disappeared after a seizure and came back, well, hot. It wasn't just her, either. Boyd came back with a serious confidence boost, and Lahey, well, he is something entirely different on his own.

Harley hasn't ever actually talked to the boy, but he's a fairly easy read. At least, he used to be. Based on the bruises that obviously aren't from lacrosse, the boy had a seriously messed up home life. All of a sudden, one day, the cops show up trying to arrest him because he "killed his father". He came back eventually, seemingly found innocent, but yet seemed far from it. He walked in with a newfound swagger and leather jacket, along with a badass blonde to match. Harley bets if she got the chance to get a good look in his eyes, though, he'd still look like the scared little boy she saw all those months ago.

"I'm telling you, Scott, this isn't going to work. There's only three of us against them," Stiles hisses in a way that Harley assumes is supposed to be a whisper, but was actually quite loud.

"Look, dude, it has to work. We can just ask someone else for help," Scott replies. Despite his attempt at reassuring his friend of whatever the hell it was that they were planning now, he looked just as nervous as the spastic boy in front of him.

"Who? How? What would we say? Just be like, 'hey, we need you to sit by Lydia Martin today and possibly every day for the rest of our lives. Sound good?'" Stiles says, not even bothering to whisper this time. She doesn't know if the boys don't care if she hears, or if they really are stupid enough to not realize she's there.

"If that's what it takes. We could ask that one girl, Harley. She seems nice enough?"

Harley blanches. Nice? Since when? It's not that she wants to scare people, per say, nice just isn't a way she's been described before. She can't decide if she hates it. Maybe not entirely.

"Harley? She's terrifying!"

"No, Stiles, she isn't."

"She's basically, like, if Captain America and Scarlet Witch had a baby, but then Black Widow raised her. Her last name is literally Rogers!"

She steps to the side slightly, making direct eye contact with Scott, who pales at the sight of her. Stiles notices his look and sighs.

"She's right behind me, isn't she?"

"Why Scarlet Witch?" she asks him, which causes him to jump despite the fact that he knew she was there.

"Uh, cause, well," Stiles splutters, to which Scott steps in.

"He thinks Scarlet Witch and Black Widow are both badass, but he thinks Scarlet Witch is hotter and Black Widow is scarier, and he thinks that you're hot but also scary, so then Scarlet Witch gave birth and Black Widow taught you all you know. Funny how that works, right?" He looks at her, but his gaze travels over her shoulder. "Anyway, we have to get to class, bye!" Scott grasps Stiles' upper arm and drags him into the classroom. Harley turns to see who he was looking at, and comes face to face with Isaac Lahey. Well, face to chest. Despite her relatively tall height for a girl, he still towers over her.

"Watch where you're going," he scoffs, stepping to the side to move around her. Instead of letting him pass, however, she steps with him to block his path.

"So, what's your deal now?" she asks him, causing his previous smirk to fall slightly.

"What?"

"Nothing. You're just, different now. You used to be all shy or whatever, but now you're just a jerk."

"Excuse me?"

"You're excused, I guess. Class is starting." She turns and walks into the classroom, taking a seat and leaving Isaac flabbergasted in the hall. He stares into the room for a moment, before Erica comes up next to him.

"Since when do you talk to Harley?" she asks him, surprised.

"I don't," he says, but it sounds more like a question than anything else. "I don't."

Harley still isn't sure what the hell the tension between the two groups is, but it's obviously something important. Possibly even dangerous. Alayna did warn her that everything in Beacon Hills wasn't what it seemed. Of course, Alayna told her about werewolves. They're rather obvious. She isn't sure if there are any other creatures, though.

I wonder if that's what they're trying to figure out, too, Harley realizes. She scribbles a note on a piece of paper, and throws it past Erica and Isaac to the table in front of them, landing it right in front of Scott. He turns to look where it came from, and she motions for him to open it. He unfolds it and reads the note.

Whatever is going on, it reads. Is Lydia going to get hurt? Scott scribbles something back. Once the teacher is looking away, he throws it back to her.

Not if we can help it. She nods slowly once, then shoves the note in her bag. Scott scrunchinizes her, as if he's trying to figure out what she's playing at. Once Harris starts talking, though, he turns back to face the front. He throws the usual insults at Stiles, then announces the group project. Erica is paired with Scott, and Allison sits beside Lydia, so Harley makes her way over to Stiles and slides into the seat next to him. He stares at her, not saying anything nor blinking.

"Something on my face?" she muses, and he swallows hard.

"No, just, confused," he says. She smirks at him for a moment, looking around the room. She makes eye contact with Erica, who looks away, and then Isaac, who seems to still be trying to figure her out. She shoots him a wink and turns to face Stiles again, whose eyes haven't left her face the entire time.

"Seems you aren't the only one."
