"Are you utterly insane? There is no way on earth I am letting you put yourself in danger like this! You know I don't even like it when you fight at school, never mind in the mafia! I'm not letting you get involved in this Carter." Mom ranted, pacing the living room as we all sat watching her.

We were all sat beside each other on the couch. Carter on one side of me with Lucas on the other. Everyone else had gone upstairs and Ryan and Jamie were sat on the other side of the room beside Blade and Ivy.

"But mom-" Carter attempted to say.

"Don't 'But mom' me. I'm not letting you get involved in the mafia. That's the end of this discussion."

"Dad, would you please tell her she's being irrational." he said, looking up at our Dad for help.

"I mean, of course I'm excited that you want to follow in our footsteps, and I know that you'd be amazing..." he began before Mom narrowed her eyes, shooting daggers in his direction. "But Mom's right."

He took a step back with his hands in the air, obviously not wanting to sleep downstairs tonight.

"Reed, stop encouraging him. You're just glad that he's so similar to you." she sighed, holding the bridge of nose with her fingers.

"What can I say? Fighting's in the blood." he shrugged before quickly shutting up.

"You wouldn't be having the same reaction if it was Skylar wanting to become a fighter." she snapped, bringing me into the conversation.

"Well..." he began.

"Oh, so you'd let her?" she asked, cutting him off and crossing her arms with raised eyebrows.

"Hell no. My baby girl is never getting involved in any of that." he said seriously.

"Exactly." she said, rolling her eyes.

"That's different, she doesn't want to do this but I do." Carter said. "I'm a good fighter, Mom!"

"Oh and don't we know it." she scoffed with an annoyed tone.

"Dad's basically trained with me ever since I could walk. I think I would be really good at this, and you guys would be there so that I don't get into any trouble!"

I sunk down in my seat, still not particularly happy with this situation. Then I felt a hand on top of mine, attempting to comfort me.

I looked up to see Lucas, his gaze remaining forward but I squeezed his hand to show my appreciation.

"Carter, we don't just work at some karate studio. This is serious business. We need our full attention on the job and we can't be distracted trying to look after you as well. It's too dangerous." she argued.

"I know that, but you won't have to look after me. I'm an adult now. Please, just let me train. Everyone has to start somewhere and I bet I'm already twice as good as your new fighters...I won't even go on a mission until I'm as good as dad if that's what it takes to convince you." Carter tried to reason.

"Ambitious to think you'll ever be as good as me." Dad scoffed.

"Reed!" Mom snapped once more.

"Can I just step in for a second?" Blade asked.

My mom simply nodded before sitting back down to try and calm herself down.

"My boys and I were talking and they seem to have the same mindset as Carter on this..." he began.

I quickly jolted my head up, releasing Lucas' hand from mine as he told us that all of them wanted to join the mafia too. I wasn't sure how much more bad news I could take tonight.
