chapter twenty

chapter twenty - november, 1984

The last bell of the day rang as Alex and Mike walked out of their classroom and made their way down the hall, stopping when they saw Will standing at his locker.

"Will, you coming?" Alex asked as they approached the boy. "Let's go show Mr. Clarke." Will stayed silent as he turned to Alex, a worried look on his face. "What's wrong?" she asked. 

"Will?" Mike added, "what is it?"

"It's about d'Artagnan," Will said as Alex and Mike looked at each other then back at Will.

"What about it?" Mike asked as Alex getting slightly worried.

"Last Christmas," Will began, "I was in the bathroom and I had a cough. So I coughed, and something like, fell out of my mouth and down the sink. When I looked into the mirror, I was back in the Upside Down. Yesterday at Halloween, I was back there as well and that day at the arcade. And I heard something that sounded exactly like Dart."

"So, you think Dart is from the Upside Down?" Mike asked as Will nodded.

"Shit," Alex said, "they're going to show Mr. Clarke!" 

All three of them looked at each other before running towards Mr. Clarke's classroom. They got there just in time because as Alex ran through the door, Dustin was about to open the proton pack, revealing Dart.

 "Stop!" Alex yelled as she ran to the desk out of breath as she grabbed the proton pack, holding it shut, "I'm sorry, Mr. Clarke. It was just a stupid prank."

"What the hell are you doing?" Dustin asked, looking at Alex like she was insane.

"I told him to stop," Alex added to Mr. Clarke before turning to Dustin, Lucas and Max. "We need to go," she said as she ran towards the door.

"Alex!" Dustin yelled as Alex turned around. 

"Right now," she said running to the door, When nobody followed her, she turned around. "Right now!" she yelled as she ran to the AV room with the others following.

"Hello?" Max yelled banging on the locked door. "Hello? Guys, come on. Can I come in yet?"

"No!" Mike yelled back as Alex looked up at him then at the boys. She was standing in between Mike and Will.

"I don't understand," Lucas said after Alex, Mike and Will had explained everything that Will explained to the two earlier.

"What do you not understand?" Alex asked.

"Will saw something that looked like Dart last year?" Lucas asked as they turned to Will.

"Kind of," said the boy, "but there was no tail."

"But then he heard it yesterday," Mike said as Alex nodded, "the exact same sound."

"Why didn't you tell us before?" Dustin asked Will as Alex turned to him.

"I wasn't sure," he said.

"So it's a coincidence," Dustin assumed as Alex shook her head.

"Or not," she said, "what if when Will was stuck in the Upside Down, he somehow acquired True Sight?"

"True Sight?" Lucas said as Dustin looked at him.

"It gives you the power to see into the ethereal plane," Dustin said as Lucas looked confused still.
