The New Girl

chapter thirty - june, 1985

While Max was helping Lucas get the hairspray out of his eyes, Alex, Mike, Will and El were in Dustin's bedroom with the curly haired boy as he showed them all of his inventions from Camp Know Where. Mike had his arms crossed as Alex had linked their arms as she rested her cheek on his shoulder and their hands were intertwined as she watched Dustin pull out his inventions out. Will and El were standing together as they watched Dustin. 

"I call it, the Forever Clock," Dustin said, showing the group of four a handmade machine item with a windmill fan that he was moving himself with a lever at the back of it. "All right? Powered by wind. Very useful in the apocalypse," he handed it to Will and El looked at it in interested. "Then, I give you," Dustin added as he grabbed another item from his bag, "the Slammer." It was another homemade item that had a hammer on the top of it that was vibrating. It held it out to Alex and the blonde girl's eyes went wide as she leant back with El doing the same. Mike smiled down at his girlfriend as Dustin chucked. "Pretty neat, huh?" he asked, putting it down. "But this," he said as he grabbed his bag and put it on the floor and the others knelt down with him, "this is my masterpiece. I would like you to meet. . . ." he began as he unzipped his bag, "Cerebro." He looked up at his friends with a smile but they were looking at him confused. Alex looked into the bag and furrowed her eyebrows when she saw parts of what she thought looked like a ham radio.

"What exactly are we looking at here?" Mike asked, holding Alex's hand.

"An unassembled one-of-a-kind battery-powered radio tower," Dustin said as Alex looked up at him slightly confused.

"So, it's a. . . ." Will began, ". . . .a ham radio."

"The Cadillac of ham radios," Dustin said as Alex looked at him and saw how happy he was, "this baby carries a crystal-clear connection over vast distances. I'm talking North Pole to South. I can talk to my girlfriend whenever and wherever I choose." Alex, Mike, Will and El's eyes went wide as they looked at each other in disbelief then back at Dustin.

"Girlfriend!?" they all asked in shock as Dustin nodded with a proud look on his face.

"Wait, so her name is Suzie?" Mike asked as the five of them were walking down the corridor of Dustin's house, carrying pieces of the Dustin's Cerebro.

"Suzie with a z," Dustin said as Alex was walking next to Mike. "She's from Utah."

"Girls go to science camp?" Will asked as he walked behind El.

"Suzie does," Dustin said as Alex smiled lightly, "she's a genius."

"Is she cute?" the blonde asked.

"Think Phoebe Cates," Dustin said as they walked past the kitchen and saw Max was still with Lucas who was still washing his eyes out, "only hotter."

"What's going on?" Max asked as Dustin opened the front door, altering her attention.

"We're going to talk to Dustin's girlfriend," Alex said with a smile as she walked out the door with Mike by her side.

"Girlfriend!?" Max and Lucas asked just as shocked as the others were. Will nodded and closed the door behind him and seconds later Max and Lucas came running out of the house.

The group of seven were walking up a steep hill in the sunshine. Dustin was in the lead, with Max and Lucas walking together behind them, Will was close behind and then bringing up the rear was El who was walking next to Alex who was holding her boyfriend's hand.
