chapter thirty seven - july, 1985

Alex was sitting down on a chair, cross legged as Lucas was throwing skittles into Max's mouth, both of them laughing and enjoying themselves while Will and Eleven were watching them, occasionally joining in. Mike saw this as his chance to sit next to Alex. He walked over to the blonde and saw down as Alex looked down at her magazine. 

"Hey," Mike said as Alex looked at him the back at her magazine. 

"Hi," she said as Mike looked down at the M&M packet in his hand. 

"Does your species like M&M's?" he asked, holding up the packet. Alex looked at him and smiled as she held out her hand. Mike grinned as he poured some into her hand. He took away the brown ones and replaced them with the green ones. "I know you like the green ones more," he said as she smiled. Alex smiled at him before putting a green one in her mouth. "I like your new look, by the way. It suits you." Alex smiled at him.

"Thanks," she said smiling. Mike smiled at her before looking down at his hands while Alex smiled at him, adoration and love in her expression before putting a yellow M&M in her mouth. "Here," she said, handing him a red one. "I know you love the red ones." Mike smiled at her as he took it.

"Thanks," he said as she smiled at him before looking at her hands while Mike stared at her like she was the most beautiful girl in the world and to him, she was.

About a few minutes later, the lights began flickering. The six kids all stood together, looking around worried at the lights. Alex was standing next to Mike as Will put a hand on the back of his neck. 

"He's here," he said as Alex groaned.

"Not again," the blonde said. The six of them exchanged looks as they walked past the receptionist who stood up and called to them.

"Hey, hey, hey! Two at a time!" she called but the kids didn't even acknowledge her as they walked past. They all hurried to the elevator and Mike began pushing the button, but the power seemed to be out. 

"Stairs," Mike said and so the six of them hurried towards the stairs and and as they ran through a corridor, they heard Jonathon yelling. 

"Nancy! Nancy!" They heard a loud roar as Alex ran up to the door and grabbed Jonathon's arm.

"Mind out the way," Alex called as she blasted a red energy ball at the door, blasting it open. "Holy shit!" she yelled as she saw what resembled a gargantuan, monstrous spider hovering over Nancy who was lying on the floor, petrified.. The monster turned around and roared at Alex as she saw that this incarnation of the Mind Flayer closely matches the one she saw in the Upside Down. The Spider Monster was composed of the bodies of dozens of congealed organisms, both human and animal, who were converted to serve the Mind Flayer's will.

"Jesus!" Mike said as they stared at the creature.

"What the f. . . ." Max began but the Spider Monster cut her off with a loud roar. Alex's eyes glowed red as the two familiar energy balls appeared in the palms of her hand. She let out a yell as she threw the Spider Monster in the left wall, the the right, then sent it crashing into the ceiling before slamming it on the floor. 

"Go to hell you piece of shit!" Alex yelled, holding both her hands out and having two red energy blasts that she had two years ago with the first monster, sending it smashing it through the window where it fell to the ground with a splat.

"Nancy!" Jonathon yelled. While Jonathon ran to Nancy, Mike grabbed Alex's hand and the group of six ran outside just in time to see the Spider Monster turn itself into goo as it sloshed its way towards the drain. Nancy and Jonathon soon came running out to see the Spider Monkey going down the drain, leaving behind parts of human bones. Alex was breathing heavy as she stared at the drain.
