chapter twenty one - november, 1984

The Mind Flayer was a gargantuan entity, being at least 50 stories tall. It's body appearing to be entirely composed of minuscule particles, giving it a misty appearance akin to a shadow. There were multiple limbs, some of which branch into several smaller appendages which were almost sucking the life out of Will, making him choke on them. The mind flayer had an elongated, flame-shaped head that sprouts from the central body that bears no visible facial features. Alex looked at her hands, pushed off the ground making her level with the flayer.

"No more!" she yelled. She threw her arms out to the side, causing a large explosion of red and black energy to surround her. She began throwing large energy balls at the Mind Flayer, become weaker and weaker with everyone she threw. "No more!"

Back in Hawkins, Mike ran onto the field, seeing Alex and Will.

"Alex!" he yelled as he ran over to her. When he got closer to her, his eyes went wide. Alex was sitting cross legged about five feet in the air, a dark red and black energy growing around her as she was moving her hands around two red energy balls. Will was standing next to her, completely still.

"Mike!" Lucas yelled from the school.

"Go find the others!" he yelled as Lucas ran back into the school. Soon, he arrived with Joyce, Max and Dustin. "I just found them like this!" Mike yelled as the other approached them, "I think he's having another episode and somehow I think Alex is included!" Mike stared at Alex, his eyes watering. Joyce held onto Alex's hand and pulled her son closer, hoping to wake them up.

"Will! Alex! Will! Alex! Wake up darlings! It's Mom, Will! Alex, Mike needs you!"

"No. . . . more. . . ." Alex yelled weakly to the Mind Flayer, blood streaming down her nose as she kept throwing energy balls at it.

"Look!" Max said, pointing to Alex's face where blood began falling down her nose.

"Will, Alex, wake up!" Joyce yelled, "can you hear me?"

"Alex," Mike yelled desperately, hoping the blonde would hear him, "Alex, please, just wake up. Please, wake up!"

"It's me!" Joyce yelled to the both. Alex and Will stayed like that for a while until Will suddenly opened his eyes and let out a gasp while an explosion of black and red energy escaped Alex. everyone covered their eyes and when they looked up again, Alex was on the floor. 

"Alex!" Mike yelled, running towards her. He knelt down beside her and put her head on his lap. "Al, please, please wake up. Please, don't leave me. I promised I would never leave but that doesn't mean you get to leave." It was silence for a while until the blonde let out a gasp and opened her eyes. "Oh thank god," he said as he held onto Alex's hand.

"Sweetie," Joyce said as she hurried over to Alex and held onto her other hand, "are you alright?" Alex nodded weakly as she stood up with help from Mike and sighed.

"Yeah," she said nodding. "Is, is Will okay?" 

"Thank to you," Will said as Alex looked up at him. She stood up and the boy pulled her into a tight hug. "Thank you," he whispered as she smiled back, hugging him just as tightly. 

"You're welcome," she whispered. 

"Alex dear," Joyce said, "do you want a life home?"

"Oh no thank you," Alex said, "I think I'm going to stay here, but thank you."

"Of course," Joyce said smiling before she lead Will to her car with Alex, Mike, Lucas, Dustin and Max following them.

"Okay, that totally freaked me out," Max said as they walked down the stairs at the front of the school. "Did that not freak you guys out?"
