"Tony."
No response.
"Tony get up."
"Hm" he groaned.
"Tony" you called again.
"Y/n?"
"Get up."
"Why?"
"I wanna sleep in your bed."
"What?"
"I'm going to sleep in here."
"You're kicking me out of my own room?"
"No. Just kicking you out of bed."
"It's the middle of the night y/n."
"Just shove over."
You climbed in bed, back facing Tony. He sat up next to you, rubbing his forehead tiredly.
"Are you okay?" he yawned.
"I'm great."
"If you were great, you wouldn't be in here... how was dinner?"
"I don't wanna talk about it."
"Then why are you in here?"
"To sleep."
"What's wrong with your room?"
"Hmm. People can find me in my room."
"So you're hiding?"
"Hm."
"From Thor?"
"From everyone."
"Why?"
"Tonyyyyy" you whined. "I'm trying to sleep here!"
"In my bed, may I remind you."
You rolled over to face him.
"I don't think I'm ready to date" you admitted.
"Mhm. Completely understandable. Why are you in my room?"
"I don't wanna talk to anyone tomorrow."
You slowly shut your eyes, hoping to end the conversation.
"Okay I got it. I don't tell anyone you're in here."
"You got it" you smiled tiredly.
———
The Avengers gathered round for breakfast as they did every other morning.
Bucky walked in after everyone had already started.
"Hey where's y/n?" he asked. "She's not in her room."
"Training?" Steve suggested.
"Nope. Checked there on my way here."
"Thor?" Natasha questioned. "Have you seen her?"
"No" Thor shook his head.
"What happened when you brought her home last night?" Bucky asked.
"I walked her to her room. She closed the door. I left."
"Did she seem off?" Natasha wondered.
"Um. I don't think so."
"You definitely brought her back to the right room?"
"Yes."
"She definitely wasn't in there?" Natasha asked Bucky.
"There was no one in there. There was no one in the training room. No one has seen y/n?!" Bucky cried.
"Tony?" Steve was suspicious of his silence.
"Hm?" Tony mumbled, chewing on his breakfast.
"Have you seen y/n?"
"Not since breakfast yesterday... I need to get some work done, so if you don't mind I'm going to finish this in the lab" Tony declared. He stacked a bit more food on his plate, then stood up to go. He walked out through a door on one side of the room.
The others were quiet.
Clint finished off the bit of food in his mouth. He put some more on his fork. He paused before putting it in his mouth.
"The lab's the other way" he commented, then proceeded to casually eat his breakfast.
Bucky instantly got up to run after Stark.
———
"Hey kid" Tony walked into his room.
"Hmmmm" you mumbled into his pillow. You were planning on hiding for the rest of the day, then sneaking back to your room that evening.
"I brought food" he said, and placed the plate on his bedside table.
You groaned and rolled over to face him, but didn't touch the food.
"You plan on staying here all day?"
"Mhm."
"Sounds productive."
"Not in the mood Tony."
"Y/n!" Someone outside yelled.
You sat up quickly. You glared at Tony.
"I swear I didn't tell anyone" Tony raised his arms in surrender.
"Y/n?" Bucky swung open the door. He saw you on the bed.
"Tony you had one job!" you whined. You lay back on the bed and pulled the sheets over your face.
"What's going on?" Bucky asked.
"Well I don't so awkward situations, so I'm gonna go."
"Tony don't you dare leave" you said, muffled under the duvet.
There was silence for a minute.
You slowly pulled down the sheets.
"No!" you screamed as Bucky jumped towards you.
He grabbed your waist and rolled over so you were on top of him. He started tickling you.
"Weiner what the fuck?!" you yelled, but you couldn't help laughing. You slapped his hand and collapsed on the bed next to him. He still had his arms around you.
"What do you want?" you laughed.
"What are you doing in here?" he frowned.
You didn't answer.
"Y/n are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine" you said, sitting up properly.
Bucky sat up next to you.
"What's wrong? And don't say nothing! Because I know it's not nothing."
"Nothing" you half-smiled.
"Did something happen at dinner last night?"
"No, Weiner. The dinner was okay. I'm just... not ready to date yet, so it was really awkward the entire evening. I just wanted to go home."
"Why didn't you come talk to me about it?"
"You were out with Yelena."
"What about this morning?"
"I didn't know how your date went so I didn't know if you were still with Yelena."
"Yeah, that's not gonna work out."
"What's not going to work out?"
"Yelena and me."
"How come?"
"Uh I don't know. I just don't think we're right for each other."
"Have you actually spoken to her about it?"
"Yeah I took her home last night then told her I didn't think it would work."
"What did she say?"
"She said she understood, that she kinda expected it, and agreed that we couldn't work together."
"Hm. I thought she really liked you. And I thought you liked her?"
"She's nice. But I don't think she's the one for me."
"Oh. I'm sorry."
"There's nothing to be sorry about. I never really saw it working out... we're getting off topic here why aren't you ready to date- y/n!"
You had groaned halfway through what he was saying and rolled over in bed so your back was facing him.
"This is exactly why I was hiding."
"Y/n come on."
"I've barely been here for two weeks Weiner. I just don't think dating is one of my top priorities right now."
Bucky was quiet next to you.
You turned over in bed yet again to face him.
He smiled softy at you, pretending he wasn't mildly disappointed with what you just admitted.
He pulled you up into a hug. You were confused but you hugged him back.
"We're still best friends, right?" he asked.
"Yeah of course."
"Promise me that'll never change?"
"Mhm. Weiner are you okay?"
"Couldn't be better."
You pulled back from your hug and adjusted the pillows behind you.
"I think I'm still gonna hide in here all day" you decided. "If you would be so kind as to relay the message that I don't want to be disturbed, that would be great."
"You want me to go?"
"I just want some alone time. Oh and take that, it stinks" you pointed at the plate of breakfast that Tony had brought you.
"Okay. Bye y/n" Bucky said as he walked to the door.
"Bye Weiner" you called, eyes already fixed on the TV.
When the door shut, you looked over at it. He had left.
You slightly regretted it. You doubted now whether you did actually want to be alone.
Then Tony came back in. You smiled at him as he sat on the end of the bed.
"So what are we going today?" he beamed.
"Well I am going to sit here and watch movies all day."
"Sounds fun. Mind if I join? It is my room after all."
"No of course. But I'm warning you, I'm picking all the movies."
"Should I be worried?"
"I don't know. I haven't watched that many movies, so I'm just going to go with what's on TV."
"Fair enough" Tony grinned.
He came to sit next to you and you leaned on his side. He put his arm around you to make it more comfortable.
You spent the entire day watching movies together, until you both fell asleep late in the afternoon.
