I strain to open my eyes, heavy from sleep.

And poison.

The sky is dark, a grayish–blue hue. Dawn is on the way.

The sheets are white. Clean. A shift of my shoulder reveals that my back is bandaged. It aches, but at least I am not dead.

Fallon lifts his head when he hears me move. He has bags under his eyes and he wipes them to clear the drowsiness.

"How do you feel?"

He looks like he has been up all night.

He probably has.

"Fine. Better. Thank you."

He nods, swallowing. The fear has not left his eyes.

"I thought you were going to die." He admits. "There was blood everywhere..."

I wince. I was only lying there for what felt like an hour before he found me, but I can imagine what it must have been like for him to find me there.

When I look around, frowning, he explains that the nurse left.

"I think she's scared of you, honestly." We both laugh at this.

It hurts my ribs and I yelp in pain.

"Hey, maybe you should stay here for a bit to heal—"

I shake my head.

"No. I need to get out of this place. I can't stand being in the same area as those—"

I wince.

I don't touch the breakfast that sits near the windows. My appetite is gone. I blame it on the poison but I know that it is more than that.

He sits on the bed next to me.

"You survived. You did it, Acilya."

I smile.

"I guess I did, huh?" He smiles, a true smile.

"We're immortal now. That's crazy."

I think about his words. It's true, we can live forever.

"You can live the life you always wanted to, Acilya. You're free. You can go home.

I relax into his arms. He feels like home. Because he is. He is home to me.

"Hey—" He starts to speak but I have to ask him.

"Run away with me."

He pulls away.
