4. Regret

The next day Ben was in his room looking at his mask.
"Im sorry Joel..." Said Ben to himself silently
Ben got up from sitting on his bed and walked to his window. He looked at himself in the reflection of his window. His brown hair sligtly discolored from the fight and a small mark on his face from Ethans slap was left on his cheek. Ben looked at his phone and looked through the messages he had sent Ethan. All of them saying he was sorry but, he got no response. Then at the top of his notifications he saw a message from Grace appear that read
"I know you didn't mean to do any harm. You're short on cash and need money I completely understand. Come by my house and I'll give you that camera."
Ben replied
"Thank you so much Grace"
Ben put away his phone and walked to his desk. He had started to fix his broken web shooter and continued working while watching t.v.. He was watching the news and people were split as they saw him take a hit for Carson but saw him turn Joel into Electro. Ben sighed and continued to work.

    "I didn't think I could trust you Connors, but I stand corrected" said a voice
"Why did you have to shock me to drop my phone?" Asked Dr.Connors
"A sense of realism" replied the mysterious voice
"You know who Spiderman is so stop this" said Dr.Connors angrily
"I actually dont Dr.Connors. There is no one in midtown with the last name Parker. So my contact will get him to reveal himself one way or another."
The mysterious voice hung up.

    "The people of New York divided by this situation,what do you think?" Said the news anchor
"Good job Ben...." He sighed
"Slowly tearing your friendships apart and your reputation" He finished fixing his web shooter. He put his suit and his web shooters in his back pack.
"Should I tell Grace I-I like her?" Ben thought to himself
"Should I tell her who I am?" Ben contemplated
"Or would it just make things worse if she knew who I am?" Ben thought as he walked down stairs and saw his mom
"Hey Ben, I'm sorry for your friend Joel" she said sadly
"It's okay mom...I'm sorry too" he replied
"What do you mean?" Asked his mom
"I could've stopped him from being there but...I-I lost track of time" he said in regret. His mom gave him a hug and she told him
"I know your life isn't perfect hun, I wanted to give you a chance when I adopted you but, my husband, your dad died when you were at school" said his Mom
"I remember..." Ben said sadly
"It will get better Ben. You just keep your head up and don't let the world take you down." She opened a drawer and pulled out a bracelet that read "With great power,comes great responsibility"
His mom looked at him and said
"This was on your wrist when you were at the adoption center. I think you deserve to have this." She gave it to Ben. Ben stood there in disbelief
"My father did know..." He thought to himself. He put it in his pocket and walked to Grace's house. He arrived and knocked on the door. Carson opened the door and let Ben in.
"Grace told me you'd be coming,she's up stairs." Said Carson
"Thank you Mr.Perryman" said Ben. He went up the stairs and knocked on Grace's door
"It's me Ben" he said on the other side of the door. Grace opened the door and his jaw dropped a bit
"You look..amazing Grace" he saw her long brown hair and brown eyes
"Thanks Ben" she replied and smiled. Ben walked into her room and Grace closed the door.
"Im sorry for what happened yesterday Ben...." She gave him a hug.
"It's okay Grace...I really messed up" replied Ben.
"No Ben. You were doing what you needed to. I know you're trying to help your mom." She let go and they were face to face staring into each others brown eyes.
"I really appreciate you Grace..." Said Ben. Both Ben and Grace closed their eyes and their lips got close together. But Grace opened her eyes and moved her head away
"Im sorry Ben...but im dating Ethan..." She said sadly
"Oh....I didn't know" replied Ben in a sad tone
"I love you Ben but I can't right now I'm sorry..." She held her head down and then looked back at Ben
"I went to visit him when he was sick yesterday and...now we're dating. The cameras on my desk...I'm sorry Ben" said Grace.
"Its okay Grace..." He grabbed the camera and put it in his back pack.
"Bye"
"Bye" said both Ben and Grace.
Ben walked out of the house and Grace looked out her window and saw Ben
"Im sorry Ben..." She said to herself

    Ben walked to school and thought to himself
"You lost your friendship with Ethan,your crush,and the life of your friend. Good job Ben." He sat at the bus stop and looked down at his phone when someone tapped him on the shoulder
"Hi" the voice said. Ben looked up and it was a girl with long black hait that reached the center of her back. She also had nice green eyes that resembled emeralds
"H-Hi,who are you?" Asked Ben
"Im Emma,Emma Hardy. I saw what happened between you and your friend yesterday.." She replied
"I'm Ben" they shook hands and Emma sat next to Ben and looked at the mark on his cheek
"He really left a mark didn't he?" Asked Emma
"Ethan? Yeah...he was pretty pissed at me" replied Ben in a soft voice. Im new at Midtown and I'd like it if you were to show me around" said Emma
"Sure" said Ben. They both smiled at each other
"You look great by the way" said Ben
"Thank you. I didn't wake up early to look like...well shit" both Ben and Emma laughed. Emma looked at Ben and saw he was now smiling
"Looks like I cheered you up an bit" Emma smiled. Ben looked at her
"Yeah you did. I've had a bad couple of hours." The bus came and both Emma and Ben got up
"Ladies first" said Emma and she laughed
"Oh? So thats how its going to be?" Ben laughed. He got on the the bus and Emma took a seat next to him. Ben took out his camera and turned it on
"Photographer I see" said Emma
"Well I got to get in the school paper one way" replied Ben jokingly. He took a picture of Emma
"And you are my model" said Ben. Emma giggled and smiled
"If you don't win with that photo you'll see my wrath" joked Emma. Ben put the camera away.
"I like you" Said Ben
"Jeez at least take me out to dinner first" Emma laughed
"How about tonight?" Asked Ben
"That sounds great" said Emma. Ben thought to himself
"At least there's one positive in this situation." The bus stopped and both Ben and Emma walked out of the bus holding hands
"I guess I could say I made your morning em-azing" joked Emma
"You did not just do that" Ben said and laughed after
"Oh my god that was so bad" said Emma as she laughed. Ben and Emma walked into Midtown holding hands and laughing as Grace watched while hugging Ethan and she said quietly to herself
"I've made a mistake..." And her face had an expression of regret as Ben and Emma walked into Midtown.
