"You will be starting a project with your table partners. You guys will create a comic book. I expect effort to be put in..."

The teacher went on and on.

"This is to be done outside school."

My head perked up. I glanced at Xavier, who had a huge 'oh shit' look on his face. I turned to face him.

"So. Your place or mine?" I asked.

He wrote on a piece of paper.

'Yours.'

I could tell his hand was shaking as he wrote. I nodded.

"How's tomorrow?"

He nodded.

I walked to my car, careful to avoid the guys. I realized I'd forgotten my keys half way through the parking lot. I sighed and walked back to my locker.

By the time I gotten back to my car, the last bus was pulling away. I heard sneakers smacking against the pavement, then a sigh. I turned to see Xavier standing there panting.

He probably missed the bus. I thought for a second before opening my car door and honking the horn. He looked over.

"You miss the bus?" I called out.

He nodded.

"Need a ride?"

He hesitated before walking over. I smiled.

"Hippety Hop in!" I said happily.

I heard him laugh quietly.

"So you want some food?"

He nodded.

"Whatcha wanna get?"

He stroked his chin pretending to think. His head perked up. Then he said the first words I'd ever heard him say.

"TACO BELL!!"
