"You decided what you gonna wear to the party tonight?" Laura asked, sitting on my bed. She decided to come over a few hours before the party and get ready here.
"Something comfortable for sure."
"Make sure it's cute." She said
"Girl, fuck them kids. I ain't going there to impress nobody." I pulled out some more clothes from my closet "The only reason I'm going to this party is because you want me to."
"What party?" My mom entered the room
"Hey Mrs. Parker." Laura greeted my mom "Uh... I'm gonna go take my shower" she gathered her items
But before she could leave out, my mom caught her arm "Nope. Both of you answer my question."
"Well...uh...well-" she couldn't form her words
"Spit it out girl" my mom said
"Some kid named Dominic is having a party at his house tonight" I said, knowing the worst she could say is no. I don't want to go anyway, so I won't be bothered if she does.
"And when were you going to tell me?"
"She wanted me to ask you for her." Laura finally spoke "And I wanted to wait until I got here to ask you if she could go."
"Mhm. What did your mom say, Laura?" My mom folded her arms
"She said I could go. You can call her if you'd like."
"Well I just got off the phone with her and she told me she doesn't want you going anywhere. So that means Kyla can't go anywhere." She gave us a stern face
"Cool with me" I shrugged, sitting on the bed
"I'm just messing with y'all" my mom erupted into laughter "Of course you can go, get my antisocial daughter out the house for once." She said to Laura
"Yes ma'am" Laura nodded
"Ma'am? That's for grandmothers." She explained "And I won't be one of those until Camryn gets older and has babies. Kyla's attitude scares all the boys off. You know anything I don't?"
"Bye mama." I playfully pulled her to the door
"I'm just saying." She shrugged, standing in the hall "Live a little more"
"Thank you. We're about to get ready for the party. Love you" I closed the door
"You gotta have a life outside of school and work!" she hollered from the other side of the door
"She's right, Ky. You gotta open up a little."
"Laura" I straight faced her "Let's get ready for this damn party before I change my mind"

"Thanks for helping me get shit setup." Dominic said to me. He invited me over to help put together the music equipment, the drinks and snacks, and some blow up some floaties for the pool.
"Shit, no problem. Anything to get away from Lena for a while." I sat down "Her ass wanna be up under a nigga all day, everyday. We don't even stay together, but she always...just around" I expressed myself
"Her ass probably love you." He shrugged
"Don't speak that shit into existence. Me and her just like each other, ain't nobody looking for love right now. She's just in strong like with me"
