Hi !

Alright, so this one is pretty specific. I don't know if you'll enjoy it. I consider I'm taking risks here because, for the first time in this book, I included some of my culture and my native language, which is French. Feel free to tell me what you think about this one.

Also, the part written in French is translated in English in the comments !

Love !

Your life has been pretty calm lately. It's finally back to normal. Normal is a word you haven't used to describe your life in a long time. It feels weird for you, this strange tranquility. You're happy though, you can finally take some time for you and for the things you love. You've always made sure to put others first, but you recently understood it couldn't keep going like that for the rest of your life. It hurt to take that decision, but you knew it was for the best. The best for you at least.

You finished unpacking the last box three months ago, and you just started a new academic year at the university you were in before that part of your life you've just left behind you. It felt good to go back to college. So many good memories came back when you stepped into the huge building for the first time in almost three years. You thought about your old friends who are already graduated now.

It was one of your biggest fear : going back to college without your friends. You knew you would have to make new friends even if you're probably older than all the people in your lecture hall.

Stopping your studies to follow your heart seemed like a big mistake for a lot of your relatives back then, but it sure wasn't one for you. It was one of the best parts of your life and you'll be forever grateful for that and for him.

Everything begun three years ago, when you were looking for an internship abroad. You had to find one pretty quickly since the end of the inscriptions were coming soon. The third year of your curriculum consisted of 3 months of lectures and practical work, and 6 months of internship. You had the choice to stay in the country or choose something abroad. Your adventurous side immediately chose to find something in another country. Plus, you weren't that bad at speaking English.

That's basically how you found yourself sharing an apartment with a stranger in the center of Toronto in the middle of December. You were pretty used to the cold back in Belgium, but not that cold. The weather there was your biggest issue at the beginning, worse than the language. Winter was no joke there.

However, you got used to your Canadian life really quickly. Your work placement mentor was the sweetest and did her everything to help you through your first few weeks.

Your roommate was also really kind with you. His name was Shawn and he was approximatively your age. You quickly got along with him and even became one of his close friends. He was a really curious guy and your foreign accent amused him a lot. He would frequently ask about your life on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and you would spend hours talking about the differences between his country and yours. He was really interested and he was even impressed by you. He was impressed that a young lady decided to quit her European life to live a few months aboard by herself.

Contrary to you, Shawn wasn't studying anything. He was really invested in music and his biggest dream was to turn his passion into his job. You genuinely wanted him to reach that goal one day. After all, he was always there to cheer you up when you were having the blues or when you were getting homesick, so you naturally wanted to support him too. And besides that, he was really talented. He showed you some of his own texts and played for you several melodies and songs he had composed himself. It was beautiful every single time. He definitely knew how to write and share his emotions through his texts. He was an incredible guitarist too. Almost every night, you could hear him play for hours in his room. You weren't suprised to discover he had a Youtube channel with a big amount of suscribers. He truly deserved that attention.
