the state of it all: it's broken

the great mechanism creaks and it moans and it does not falter
no matter how many moving parts clam up
from the tension and the traction that results
it keeps producing
this big top show with its cheers and confusion
lights up with instant gratification
this human equation that subtracts the human
but no one's really fooled here
just used to the temperature of the room comfortable in the noise and position
if it means nothing has to be uprooted
the fear of change makes clamming up tolerable
if it means there's something we're attached to
because if the machine isn't stealing our time
and using our bodies
what else were we born to do?

i've been kicking and screaming
alone in this warehouse
oiled up for my purpose
prepared for the onliness of life
and it feels like my body is dead
while my consciousness is trapped
within the corpse
