Chapter 10

"Mate? Are you delusional? I'm not your mate!" My food forgotten as I stared at the male wolf in front of me.

"You heard me, mate." He continue to have that stupid smirk on his face. I wanted to wipe it off.

"We are mates."

"You are lying."

"Now why would I lie about mates? You are human what would you know." He laughed at my confusion.

"Go eat, your food is getting cold. We will talk tomorrow." He looked at me for one more moment and then left.

What the heck is going on!? There is no way he is my mate. I would've been able to tell. Wouldn't I? What the hell is wrong with me, of course I would know. I stormed to my room slamming the bags of food onto the small table, my appetite gone. I buried my face in my hands to calm myself down. Think, think..

If he was my mate, my wolf would have alerted me. But how I have cut her off in order to keep my wolf smell off their radar. But there should be some recognition. It didn't matter I had a mate and he rejected me. So was this guy my second mate? It has happened but not often, but it happens. No that can't be it, so what game is he playing? Who knows and who cares, I wasn't going to play.

I have bigger things to worry about, Celeste Wright. Tomorrow was crucial in forwarding my plans. This place was getting to me and I needed to accelerate the mission.

I emptied thoughts of the mysterious guy from my mind and refocus on my mission for tomorrow. I needed to be ready. I had to tap into a side of myself that hated. My vulnerable side in order to get Celeste on my side. If I could pull that off, getting the answers that Carson was looking for would be much easier to attain. I force some of the food down my throat before going to bed.

The day had come and I sat on my usual bench drawing random objects, when they entered the park. Celeste, her son, and two guards headed towards the center of the park laying out blankets and picnic baskets. It didn't take long for the little rugrat to spot me before he sprinted in my direction.

"Fi! Fi! Fi!" Caden yelled reaching out for me to pick him up.

I barely had time to brace myself when he launched himself into my arms. Dang he was stronger for a toddler. "Hi."

Celeste trotted quickly behind him with her hand under protruding belly with an apologetic smile. "Hey Eva, sorry about him, he can be very demanding with people he likes."

"It's okay."

"Please come over and join us. Caden get down and walk. I was coming to see you at your hotel afterwards but you have saved me a trip." Celeste plucked an unwillingly Caden out of my arms pushing him towards their picnic basket. One of her guards waved Caden over shaking a bottle of juice at him to tempt him away from us.

"Really? Why?" We had reached the blanket where Caden had finished his juice and turn his attention back to me.

"I wanted to talk to you." She gave her men the look.

"Hey Caden want to go play on slide?" The guard that waved the juice bottle stopped Caden in his tracks before he planted himself on my lap.

"No! Fi! Fi!" Caden had growled at the hand restraining him from his objective, my lap.

"How about some ice cream buddy?" The guard change tactics knowing Caden's weakness. I knew after watching them for the past few weeks that Caden was obsessed with ice cream. Celeste usually didn't let him get it until after his lunch.

"Ice cream!" He took off with the guys leaving us alone.

"Eva, I want you to know that my husband can be very paranoid when new people come around us. I don't want any secrets between us and be up front. He did a full background check on you."
