Chapter 23

I need to get a grip. I toweled dried my hair, feeling refreshed from the shower after the events from last night. I needed to cleanse myself from my phone discussion with Carson. My mind replayed the conversation over and over.

I should get the hell out of here and cut my losses. Why am I staying? These people don't mean anything to me. I need to save myself and leave. But I can't. I have never left a job until it was finish and I won't start now. I will have to speed up the time table, by doing something uncharacteristic. Telling the truth.

I placed my phone, tape recorder and the vial that Peyton gave me into a drawer. After I get dressed, I will put everything back into its hiding place except for the vial. I had plans for Peyton's concoction, I hope I get to use it before I leave. I secured another towel around me opening the door to the bedroom.

"Eva." I stopped dead in my tracks at Creed, who was sitting on the edge of my bed. He appeared to be relaxed and simply waiting for me to come out.

"Creed." I debated if I should go the closet to get my clothes and realized that my duffle bag with all my stuff was dumped on the bed. Shit! My bag had envelope full of cash, keys, the burner phone that Carson gave me, my laptop, two guns, and assortment of knives. The incriminating stuff was still in the bathroom.

"Who are you and let's cut the bullshit. This is not about your rejected mate!" Creed raised voice broke my trance on the stuff on the bed back to him. He was no longer sitting and relaxed, he was standing and pissed off.

"Creed let me explain." I step towards him but he growled halting my movements. Ok he was beyond piss. He had every right, he knows now that I was lying through my teeth last night.

"Is Eva even your real name?" I could hear a hint of hurt in that statement. He thought I was his mate, and felt betrayed.

Sighing, I guess telling the truth will start before I get dressed. "Yes and no."

"Fuck! What the hell does that mean?" Creed started pacing in front of me swing his head back and forth from the bed to me.

"It means that Eva Pesch is my name, but I'm no longer that person."

Creed closed his eyes and stopped pacing. "No more double talk! Why are you here? What do you want?"

"Hold on a sec, let me get dress and I will tell you everything." Creed didn't move but stood watchful as I moved to the closet to pull on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. My underwear was in the drawer, I guess I was going commando.

"Eva!" Creed stopped impatiently tapping his foot waiting for me to turn around and exit the closet.

"Okay, I'm dressed." I stepped out of the closet and was aware that Creed had not moved far. He kept his eyes trained on me standing between the bed and closet door. "Where do you want me to start?"

Creed crossed his arms raising his eyebrows with a dumbfounded look on his face. "Really, I don't know maybe why you have weapons and cash hidden? Or why you are here in the first place?"

"Can I sit?" I nodded towards the other side of the room.

"Your room." I moved over to the small chair near the vanity and turned it around to face him. "The weapons are for protection. I am here to get information."

Creed had resumed his position on the edge of his bed. "Protection from what? Information about what?"

"Tell me Creed, what do you do for the council?"

"What the fuck does what I do for the council, have to do with all this?" His arm made a sweeping motion over the contents he had spread on the bed.

"Bear with me. What do you do?"

"I'm a tracker."

"Oh, a tracker. So that means the council sends you out to find things or people."

"That's part of my job, more of an investigator."

"Well working for the council, I'm sure you heard of some black ops groups."

"I've heard rumors or fairytales."

"I'm no fairytale."

"You work for the council? In what capacity."

"Well you can say, I am an investigator too, only difference is that most people don't know that."

"You're a spy."

"Eh, I guess if you need to put a title at what I do, that could be one."

"You're here on assignment, who are you spying on?"

"No one in particular, my mission was vague. Simply find the secret that the Raven Pack was hiding."

"And did you find what you were looking for?"

"No. My employer never expected me to uncover any secrets here."

"Why send you here?"

"I'm the patsy. I was setup to take the fall for the real reason why I was sent here."

"And that is?"

"To kill Celeste Wright." Creed's relaxing demeanor was gone the instant the words came out of my mouth. He rushed at me yanking me to my feet and slamming me against the wall. Both of my hands wrapped around the base of his wrist as his hand held my neck in a vice grip.

"Mate or no mate, I won't let you kill my brother's mate!" Creed snarled into my ear.

It was time I pulled the gloves off. During this whole time I kept my wolf at bay, but no more. I tapped into my wolf and she surged through my veins. I felt the power flow through me, as I curled my legs upward and kicked at his midsection to break his hold.

Two things happened when I attempted this maneuver. One, Creed flew backwards landing on my bed. Two, my wolf recognized him as our mate. Fuck me, he was telling the truth!

A/N

Finally, Eva realizes that Creed was telling her the truth. Their mates! Let me know what you think.
