Cars they travel by all day

I wonder where they went today

Some went east

Some went west

I wonder which way is the best

To travel here, to travel there

I wonder if they go anywhere

Driving long lonely miles

On dark dusty roads

Full of potholes

Bends and hairpin curves

I wonder if they ever swerve

To miss an occasional cow or bird

Ah well c'est la guerre

I don't suppose that I really care

Stuck here in my dreary hole

I make a good imitation of a mole

I'm digging dirt and sifting it

Here in my dark and dreary pit

I wonder if I'll ever sit

In one of those cars that easily flit

By my dark and dreary pit

Oh Shift ! !
