Yesterday, I sat looking for something to do
Alone with the breakwater clearly in view
The sea breeze wiped up the waves into towering mountains
Waves rolling in from horizon to horizon, fountains of spray.
Smashing themselves against the concrete blocks left by man
Breaking themselves asunder upon the barrier protecting a quiet harbour island
So I stood upon the pinnacle of the breakwater
Defining the waves to hit me
Suddenly the wind wiped up
And rushed across my face, stealing my hat
Their it lay, in the water
Waves pounding it into nothingness
Till unexpectedly it slipped round the breakwater bend
Into that quiet island bay
Were ignominiously, I had to bathe to retrieve it
Subtle irony wouldn't you say
Man defies waves
Wind defeats man
