The rule of three, or tripling, is a writing feature/device utilising peoples favour of patterns of three.
It's a commonly used feature:
There's 'three little pigs', 'three musketeers' and 'three wise men'.
An ellipsis has three dots.
Applying this technique into your story is simple: in listing, description and general patterns of three.
E.g. 'She felt abandoned, alone and afraid'.
Also, all three adjectives begin with the letter 'a'. Which is another writing feature: alliteration.
Used together, the rule of three and alliteration will add to the quality of your work.
Do you use the rule of three and alliteration?
