(Chapter 20)
"Someone to Save You"

Saturday, March 2nd
3:30am

"Shae?"

Shae froze in fear when she heard the familiar voice utter her name.
Shae slowly turned around... to find herself face to face with a murderer.

"It... it was you," she trembled.

"You shouldn't be in here," Derek Turner approached her calmly.

"I..."

Shae's heart was pounding in her chest.
Her body went cold and numb.
Forcefully, she felt a hard thud against her back and realised she had backed herself against the locker wall.

"How..."

"How what, Shae?"

Her voice trembled, she could barely raise her voice beyond a terrified whisper.

"How could you..."

He stared at her with cold, blank eyes.
His mouth turned into a twisted smirk.

"It was easy."

"W-why?"

"Why?" The word spewed out of his mouth.

He looked at her with an expression of pure rage.

"Believe it or not, I used to be much less attractive growing up. I was snubbed by girls my whole life. When I finally got to college, I thought my life would finally get better. I was starting to turn myself around. I even met a beautiful girl. When I first saw her, she... looked like an angel. I knew I could never stand a chance to win her heart. But miraculously, she started to notice me. We even starting talking occasionally. Then, one day, she actually asked me out. I couldn't believe it. I felt... better than I had my entire life. She started to let me get close to her. I loved her. I really did. I was in love with her. I thought she felt the same for me. But, then she stopped. She stopped talking to me, stopped paying attention to me, stopped acknowledging my existence. I was heartbroken. I tried to talk to her about it... but then I found out the truth. Her roommates made me a dare. They laughed at me. They laughed right in my face. They humiliated me. When I took this job last year, it gave me the girls I've been looking for."

"You killed my friends!"

"You know, I liked you Shae. You were really a good student. It's unfortunate for you that you went looking."

Derek's eyes scanned up and down Shae's body.

"She stopped texting!" Jillian jumped up.

"How long has it been?" Darren asked.

"It's been fifteen minutes! Shit! I'm calling Jackson."

Jillian quickly dialed him and paused for a couple minutes.

"He's not answering!"

"It's 4am, he's probably not awake."

"Well, what do we do?! She's in trouble!"

"Keep calling Jackson, I'll try to see if I can reach Alex."

"Goddamnit, Jackson!" Jillian hissed.

"Alex?"

"You got him?" Jillian turned to Darren.

"Yeah, he-"

Jillian snatched the phone from him.
"Alex, wake Jackson up right the fuck now. It's important!"

"Alright," Alex paused. "Okay, I got-"

"GIVE HIM THE PHONE!"

"Jillian?"

"Jackson, get the fuck up and go to Gilbert now!"

"What's going on?"

"Listen to me. Get in through the back door, Shae is on the second floor in the teacher's lounge. She's in trouble!"

"What?!"

"SHE WENT LOOKING FOR THE KILLER AND I THINK HE FOUND HER, FOR FUCKS SAKE GO NOW!"

"SHIT!"

"Hello?" Alex returned on the other line.

"Did he leave?"

"Yeah, he just ran out the door."

Jillian hung up.

"He left now to go get her," Jillian let out a long breath.

"Maybe he'll get there in time," Darren told her

"I don't even want to think about what will happen if he doesn't."
~

"W-what?" Shae stood frozen.

Derek's eyes went dark with desire.
He stared at her with a look of both rage and excitement.

"Shit!"

Shae quickly slipped past him through the archway, but she didn't get far before he grabbed her and pulled her back to him.
She started to scream, but he forced his hand over her mouth.
Shae tried to squirm out of his grasp, but he was too strong.
His eyes ran down her body and he tightened his grasp on her.

"Shae?!"

When Derek heard Jackson yell, his grip loosened.

Shae managed to free herself from his grasp.

"JACKSON!"

Derek caught up to Shae and shoved her hard against the wall
Shae hit her head against the wall and sank to the floor, her vision blurred.
Derek stood over her, but when he reached to grab her again, he fell to the ground.
Shae looked up and saw that Jackson had hit him over the head with a chair.

"Shae? Shae!"

Her head was spinning but Jackson helped her to her feet.
He took her in his arms and held her tightly against him, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
