"m-mom, when did you arrive?!"

I asked the lady, intimidated. she gulped the soju down and looked at me.

"where had you been?!"

I looked at the floor, tears welling up for no reason.

"at my friend's house"

I whispered.

she finished the bottle and smashed it on the wall, causing me to flinch.

"have you studied today?!"

I shook my head slowly,

"you didn't?!"

I nodded,

"I finished all my assignments so-"

her hand hit my face harshly. one slap was followed by many others.

"you worthless idiot! you should've died with your father!"

she said and I bit my lip to hold back my sobs.

she was about to punch me, when the door opened. my brother stood there, shocked by what was going on.

he dropped his groceries and pushed my mother away.

"I was gone for a minute, ONE MINUTE and this is what you do?!"

he raised his voice at my mother and she looked at him with fear.

"m-my son, I didn't mean to-"

"SHUT UP!"

he screamed at her and she flinched.

"I'm sick and tired of you treating eunbi like trash! just leave"

he said and tears started falling out of her eyes,

"cut the act mom"

he told her, irritated and she scoffed.

"how are y'all gonna live though?!"

she asked us, an eyebrow raised.

"I've been working at chan hyung's cafe and eunbi's gonna graduate. it's not like you paid the rent here anyways"

he said and she clapped sarcastically.

"fine, I'll leave. but don't expect me to come back"

she said hastily and left.

my brother softened and looked at me.

"oh my eunbi, you're shivering"

he said and pulled me into his embrace.

I cried and cried more, letting it all out.

"it's okay eunbi, you're safe now"

he said and pulled away, wiping a stray tear off his face.

"I can't believe she came back, probably wanted some money"

he said and I chuckled.

"I'll get a part time job, to help you"

I said, my voice shaky and he shook his head.

"focus on your class, and that jungwon dude"

he said and I laughed.

"I will, thanks hyunjin"

I hugged him and he hugged me back.

"okay time for bed, I'll be leaving early in the morning tomorrow and I need my beauty sleep!"

he said and I walked to my room,

"good night!"

I took a shower and fell on my bed, exhausted but for some reason, I wasn't able to sleep. unknowingly, I took up the phone and dialled a number.

"hello, jungwon?!"
