Season 6, Episode 24

'Death and all his friends'

____

The words April stammers to Mr. Clark sound far away, all Maeve can really concentrate is the pain in her side. Out of the corner of her eyes, she finally sees April rushing to get away, sighing, Maeve is glad that at least someone got out of this physically unharmed.

Maeve hears Derek coughing from beside her his heads lifts itself, focusing on the shooter. "Mr. Clark..." He mutters. Moving her head as quick as her state allows her, Maeves sees Mr. Clark, point the gun once again at Derek, when he suddenly looks to the side, startle by the sounds of footsteps. Moving through the pain, Maeve looks down at the lobby, seeing SWAT troops enter.

When she sees Mr. Clark rushing away, Maeve slides over to Derek, putting a hand on his chest.

"Hey, Derek. Come on, don't die on me." Maeve whispers. Derek moves his head, meeting her eyes.

"We're gonna be alright." He chockes out, between raspy breathing. "Like you said."

After minutes that feel like hours, a familiar figure runs through the door, down the walkway, towards the two of them. "Meredith." Maeve sighs out, in relief.

"See Derek, Mer is here." She whispers. She watches his eyes trying to focus on anything.

Meredith falls into her knees in Derek's other side. Pulling her hand away, she makes room for Meredith to press her hand on the wound, feeling that she has more strength to put pressure on the wound than Maeve.

"Hold on, okay?" She says in panic, looking down at Derek. "Hold on. I love you. Please don't die."

Meredith looks up at Maeve for a split second, meeting her eyes in panic. Both blondes look back to Derek when he starts talking. "Get out here, Meredith, take Maeve, before he shoots you too."

Maeve groans in pain when she moves her body more to her good side. Tears sting her eyes at the sensation, she knows that the current adrenaline is still making her feel less pain, but with every second, the pain starts to become more.

"Do not die. Do you understand?" She begs Derek, when he starts coughing.

Maeve moves her head, when she hears another pair of footsteps approach, groaning in pain, she sees Cristina carefully approaching. "I called the police."

Cristina kneels down by Maeve, looking at blood coming out of her side. She scrunches her her face, meeting Maeve's eyes. "Shit, princess."

Maeve nods agreeing, grimacing at the pain, that even a gesture this small brings. Cristina presses her hands on top of Maeve's, who press against the wound, putting way more pressure on it than Maeve can in her weakened state. The Korean woman looks at Meredith.

"M-mer, they're-they're not- they're not gonna get here. They're not coming for us, not-not in time. Oh, God, mer. Mer-" Cristina brings out, voice clearly shaken up.

Feeling more and more dizzy with every second, Maeve starts to have problems making out the words. A feeling of wool stuck in her ears takes over, and black spots in her vision. "Cris-" She mutters.

"Oh, god, oh god." Cristina puts more pressure on the wound "Keep your eyes open for me." She chockes out. Panicked she looks around and gulps. Maeve sees Cristina look at Meredith. She tells her somethig, eyes fill with panic.

Cristina leans down to the blonde. "Stay awake, princess, okay. I'll be right back. We get you outta here okay, stay awake Maeve."

Maeve can't even nod her head, she just looks at Cristina bringing something undefinable out. Cristina nods, taking it as a yes, before getting up and rushing away, not before telling her to push as hard as she can against the wound.

Time feels different when you get shot, in an blink of an eye, Maeve feels Cristina return, while the world goes numb around her. Vaguely she makes out April behind the Korean woman, two wheelchairs by her side.

The next thing Maeve feels is pain. Groans of pain fall from her lips when Cristina moves the blonde on one of the wheel chairs. Cristina moves around the chair standing in front of Maeve, she meets her eyes, lips moving, but again Maeve can't make any words out.

The black spots in her vision become bigger, the black edges at the corner of her vision are closing in. The feeling is like one of those nights, when Maeve had show marathon, and just can't stay awake, blacking out from time to time. But this time she's not sure if she wakes up. The pain in her side takes her over, ears and eyes cloudy, she doesn't realise that Cristian, Meredith and April start to move her and Derek through the hallways, stopping at every corner looking for the shooter, before finally arriving in the OR, only to find out the Teddy and Owen weren't there anymore.

Maeve doesn't see Jackson's scared eyes on her, or how his hands cup her face, talking to her, begging to stay awake. She doesn't realise, how April puts her down on a gurney they have pushed inside the OR, while Jackson and Cristina operate on Derek. She doesn't realise how April checks her wound.

The only thing she feels is immens pain, when April starts to touch her wound, even with a morphine drip. Soon enough, Maeve falls uncounisiouss. It's close to a wonder that she actually stayed awake for that long in the first place. When April takes out the bullet, and Maeve's shouts turn silent, Jackson moves his eyes over to her figure. Cristina feels his attention moving from Derek.

"Hey, pretty boy. She's gonna be okay, she probably just fell unconscious. You can't get rid of her, she's like gum under your shoe." Cristina jokes, trying to hide her own concerns behind humour. Jackson throws another glance at Maeve's unconscious form. Even with Cristina's try to calm him, he can't help but worry.

"She's gonna make it, Jackson." April says from her position by Maeve, trying to not to let her voice waver and show her fear. She shows him the machine she has attached to her, showing a heartbeat. "Her heart's still beating."

Nodding, Jackson looks back at Derek's open chest, hoping for the best. Trying not to let the 'still' in April's sentence take over his mind.
