Language

You say animals can't talk,
but only if you'd know

The songs they sing,
the sounds they make,
the words just flow

They talk about sadness, anger and grief,
they hold the key to Life's wisdom, if only you'd believe

So don't hurt an animal
and never call them weak

You'd behave much more rational, if you'd listen when they speak.

Hello Aesthetes!

Today we have with us the Grand Runner-Up of Versification KainGodchilds.

🎈1. How did it feel to find out you were on of the Grand Runner's Up for word challenge?

I was lost for words. A lot of amazing writers and poets participated in the contest, so I never thought I'd make it to the top 3.

🎈2. What was your favourite prompt in Versification?

I had the most fun writing the story for the Legendary challenge prompt.

🎈3. Share with us your favourite poem/entry you wrote for versification.

As I hinted at in the the previous answer, I had the most fun writing Legendary - The Easter Bunny, but the story that warms my heart every time I'm reminded by it is Kaput - The Toy Maker. I really love Audrey, Fern and Teddy.

Poem-wise, I have to admit that Seize got me smiling while I wrote it, but both Language and Historical hold thoughts I'd like people to contemplate on.

🎈4. What are three words that you'd describe your writing?

I had trouble answering this question, so I asked around and here are the answers. My precious queen said: "Your writing is everything I like." Elvira_Kamgut described my writing as "beautiful, well-thought out", but then changed it to "prudent, poetic and deep" after finding out it was for Versification. Another wonderful human being said my writing is "insightful and touching." JulieDove4 described my writing as "amazing" and added that "versatility and unity are great words."

🎈5. What is the inspiration behind your poetry/writing?

The people who inspire me the most are my readers, but my muse is, was and will always be my precious queen. She cheers me on when I'm writing and she helps me tackle every hurdle by being her wonderful self. For this contest we had, of course, also amazing prompts to help keep our creativity flowing, so the people coming up with those prompts too have been a source of inspiration for me.

🎈6. Do you have a favourite Poet or Poetress?

I adore every poet, poetress and poet person's work I've had the pleasure to stumble upon on Wattpad and I'm even lucky to have become friends with some of them.

🎈7. What was your favourite part of Versification?

I loved how all these amazing writers and poets were given the exact same prompts and all of them ended up writing the most diverse stories and poems you can imagine. How beautiful the human mind can be when it comes down to painting words on a empty canvas and taking their readers on a journey of creativity.

🎈8. If you could meet one poet, dead or alive, who would it be?

I'd then would like to meet all these amazing poets, poetresses and poet people I've met through Wattpad in real life.

🎈9. What style of poetry/writing do you write normally?

It might come as a huge shock, but I normally write in exactly the same style as I wrote my entries in.

🎈10. What is your favourite poem you've ever written and what inspired it or is the story behind it?

"My own favourite poem of all times is ""Ode to Dean Winchester"" and the title is much longer than the actual poem.

I wrote it for a PoetsPub challenge and the prompt of that specific round was: "Write a math poem."

Now, at that moment it had been a while since I had had math and to be honest I always had math in Dutch, so no matter how much I wanted to, I just didn't have enough English vocabulary to construct a great equation that turns into a poem when read out loud like disorganized-galaxy did. I really love the math poem they wrote and I'm utmost proud of them as a writer, poet and person.

So I did some research and the more I learned, the less I understood, which brought me into a semi-frustrated Dean Winchester mood.

The deadline was nearing and my inner Dean took over. I have to admit I was hungry at the time and craving for some pie like good old Dean, so I ended up submitting this poem:

I can't find x
and don't know y.
Fuck this shit.
I need some 𝝅.

I still love that poem. I always chuckle when I think about how it's a math poem when written, but gets a different meaning when spoken out loud.

I'm proud of myself for having been able to write this despite all the struggles I faced while tackling the challenge.

🎈11. Anything you'd like to add or say?

I'd like to thank you for the interview. It has been utmost amazing.

I'd also like to thank everyone working behind the scenes to have made Versification 2023 possible. You all worked so hard for it and it turned out brilliant. Thank you and congratulations on such a wonderful job.

Thank you Kain! Do check out her winning entry Demon In The Mirror and shower all the love.
