Ch 1

July 13th, 2008

Slipping on my tan Marley boots over the once dark jeans, now faded, I threw a glance at the full length mirror hanging in between my two closets. The lime green tank top hugged my body smoothly, covered by a black laced shirt which fell from one shoulder. Though the lace didn't cling to my body, the outfit complemented my curves in all the right places.

Neatly tying my hair behind the nape of my neck, I pinned a black bow into my bangs to hold back the loose hairs. A touch of eye shadow, a pale green color coated in sparkles, hinted across my eyes ever so slightly. Thinly layered mascara accented my clear blue eyes against the fluorescent lights.

"Oh, come on," yelled Adileigh from the other side of my bedroom door, "You look fine."

Rolling my eyes, I sighed inwardly. She couldn't even see me. "I'll be out in a second." With one final look to the mirror, I gave the door a shove, only to be greeted by an agitated Adileigh.

"We were supposed to leave over a half hour ago."

"And I care because?" I questioned, unconcerned about the time.

"Ugh, Sephora, you were supposed to wear your mini skirt."

"And what? Look like a slut?" I asked. Sarcasm dripped through my voice, "I'll change, but weren't you the one complaining seconds ago that we were late?"

"Just grab your keys," she replied clearly annoyed by my tactics.

Cool crisp air blew stray pieces of dark chocolate hair behind me. Disarrayed. Though I could've cared less; the thrill of driving in open air seized me uncontrollably.

Lights illuminated the sky in too many colors to name. Memories flooded my mind instantly, recreating the first night I ever was greeted by the fair lights. With the radio off, I could roughly catch the beat of a multitude of songs as we came closer to the flickering lights. A smile touched my lips.

"You're happy you came," stated Adileigh, just as we pulled into the cramped parking lot.

"Of course," I sighed, "It just brings back memories. Many memories."

"Doesn't it always? That's why I drag you here every year."

"Ya, I kinda figured that."

Reaching for my hand, Adileigh weaved through the crowd, not caring about people yelling. We cut in and out of lines to find the ticket booth hidden amongst the population. "Two tickets please."

"Twelve dollars total," replied the lady sitting behind the counter. A bored look consumed her wrinkled face.

Though this happened to be a local fair, people living all over Ohio drove the distance to Cleveland. Rides bustled with people shoving their way against the current of the crowd swallowing them.
