Chapter 7
Karl stood on the street, shaking his head. This was a huge mistake. He hadn’t anticipated that. Maybe he wasn’t so meticulous after all. Maybe he lost his touch. Nevertheless, the mission was a complete failure. He should have looked at all the possibilities before engaging.
He was just about to return to the car when his phone rang. He flipped it open.
“The boss is here,” the man on the other end of the line said.
Karl bit his nails. He blew the mission. He should be taking the target with him now, and should be interrogating him any time soon.
The boss is here. He chewed on that. He couldn’t muster his voice.
“Karl? You there?”
“Yeah… Yeah I’m here,”
“Boss wants you to take the five o’clock flight. Today.”
“But I…,” Karl was about to explain, but realized that they probably know everything as of the moment. “Where to?”
“No questions, Karl. Drive to the airport now. Walk up to aisle five. Your ticket will be handed to you. You’ve already been booked.” The man said. “Last chance, Karl. Don’t mess up, or you’ll end up shopping candles for your wife.” Then the phone went dead.
